Police: Man held girlfriend captive, poured bleach in her eyes

LATROBE, Pa. (AP) -- Police say a Pennsylvania man held his girlfriend captive for more than three days during which he hit her with a hammer, pulled out her hair and poured bleach in her eyes and wounds.

Authorities say she escaped Saturday morning from 43-year-old Glenn Whittier, of Latrobe. She was taken to a hospital. Her condition wasn't immediately available.

Police say the woman told them Whittier struck her with the hammer. They say she had bite marks, cuts, bruises and a large amount of hair missing from her head.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Whittier.

He was being held Wednesday in the Westmoreland County prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 23 on charges including aggravated assault and unlawful restraint.

Having experienced violence, I understand all too well it's myriad effects. Therapy, or not, I still experience rage and fear from time to time. I still dream of exacting revenge. That said, I don't want to dig two holes. Lock people up, protect us from them, that is essential, but retaliation chips away at our humanity. I have paid to high a price for mine to relinquish one sliver of it.

I'm not sure but I think rating a thread is automatically anonymous..

However I'm right with you Shalimar, I do think that the death Knoll for a forum is one where it's all about Raindrops and roses, and little puppy noses...there has to be serious debate particularly for those of us who are seniors to enable our minds to be kept well oiled...

Jim, I think the thread is relevant and topical. We are all adults and should be able to handle serious topics as well as humorous ones. I commend you for posting it.
