My poor hard luck pup Pete has injured his foot.. It's his right front one.. and he is doing his best to hobble along on 3 legs.. The only problem is that his left hind leg is lame too..so in essence he is trying to navigate on 2 1/2 legs. Pete if you recall me saying is my epileptic and neurologically impaired pup... He has had extensive testing only to NOT have a firm diagnosis on what causes his pain and weakness..other than polyneuropathy. He is on daily medication. NOW THIS!! We think he hurt his foot on the hard ice pockets in the back yard.. so now off to the vet for more xrays.. I hope it isn't broken. That poor dog can't seem to catch a break..

Such a sweet looking dog, QS. The prednisone should give him some fairly fast relief, and the carprophen for long term. My Bonnie came with arthritis and she had the pred for a limited time and then the carprophen after tapering off the pred. She is doing VERY well on it and can now go on very long walks with me and truly enjoy them.

PS: If Petey is going to be on the carprophen (a/k/a vetprofen) long term, you can get it a lot cheaper at the wal-Mart pharmacy than from the vet. My vet just wrote me a scrip and I go get it filled like a people medicine.

My old Harold (RIP) had a neurological problem in his neck and he did very well on gabapentin, which seems to work better on nerve pain. He lived happily to a ripe old age and the gabapentin relieved his pain for about the last 4 years of his life. He also took tramadol for the pain I got both of those scrips filled at Walgreens for about half what the vet's office charged me. Walgreens doesn't carry the carprophen, though, thus Wal-Mart. Walgreens also has a deal here where they have some kind of prescription plan for those without other insurance. The pharmacy tech suggested I sign up Harold and Emily (my other dog) as a family unit and I got even further savings on their scrips. Harold was listed as the head of household and he got letters about his prescription plan. Cute.
