Sperm donor could have up to ninety-six hundred children!.

According to the CBS Sunday Morning program one man donated about four hundred times and that could provide enough sperm to create such a high number. Although he was supposed to be anonymous some of his offspring were able to figure out who he was and wanted to meet with him. He visited with eight of them and they were glad to see who he was and to meet their half siblings. This seems bizarre to me and makes me think that this donor thing should be seriously restricted...

I saw that segment as well, and yes it was ... odd. Didn't they say he had 22 kids that he knew of, because they made that joke about the football teams?

I can understand perhaps an offspring's desire to know their father, but the system that they used online might be open to abuse.

It was also strange but amusing that they mentioned that he could have a herd of kids...

The first thing that came to mind was,and god said,go forth and multiply.it must not be easy for a child to find out that their father was just sperm in a vile.so many issues and perspectives and emotions with all parties involved.its crazy.

I believe that health issues may be a valid reason for wanting to know ones biological parent.. not so much wanting a relationship.. but wanting to know about any inheritable diseases.

The kids never mentioned those issues. Rather, they wanted to see his face, his smile, what he found funny, etc. In short, they wanted to know him as a person...

Some issues don't come up until later in life.. many may not be directly inheritable, but present a predisposition.. So it might be good to know... Other than that.. unless someone wants to know where they got their eye color.. or nose... I see no reason to contact a sperm donor.

Ralphy,I think it's that too.it's logical for a child to grow up and want to know.both parties,be it the donor ,should expect the possibility of someone looking for them down the road.

How deeply screened the donor is they didn't mention. He was an electrical engineering student at Stanford and probably paid all of his expenses by the number of times he donated! This reminds me of the same issues that come up in adoption...

It seems to me that the U.S. is Full of "Sperm Donors". Huge numbers of our kids are being raised by single mothers, and many of those kids probably never know who their father Really is.

I always thought a "father" was more than just a sperm donor ...

The children of this particular donor who he met with seemed happy and well adjusted as they had family support from birth, and the donor only saw himself as an"uncle" should his help become necessary...

Phil, 'anybody can be a father but it taks someone special to ba aa dad'. Iii consider my father a sperm donor cause he sure wasn't good as a dad. Most kids in this situation want the connection. .Its good that the kids he met were well adjusted but 'uncle' ?
Ralphy,he was paid double time for all that stroking .
