I haven't see him in about 2 months and he seemed okay then. Now he's walking flat on his hind legs and stumbling. He walks a few steps and flops down. I looked that up and it's a sign of diabetes. Since he's not my cat, there's nothing I can do. He reminds me of a cat I had about 50 years ago, even to the white spot on the chest.

How about this? If the cat is loose, looks ill and you do not know who it belongs to take it to a no kill shelter and let them check it out. If you are interested in adopting it let them know your intentions. Keep in mind there will probably be an adoption fee. If you can't adopt it yourself at least it will be taken care of by the shelter. Also, most areas have cruelness to animal laws on the books. Just a suggestion.
 
I'm so sorry for this kitty. @debodun when I owned that horrible house, I had these one horrible neighbors who moved in who didn't take care of their animals. Their cat was on my property. She appeared hungry, I fed her and she really ate. I worried about her. I called the shelter and they stated if the cat is on your property you can legally bring her in. So I scooped her up and took her. I don't know what her fate was. I sure didn't see her again, so I know they never looked for her. She had a better chance then being with those people. I saw rocks being thrown at her. I know I did the right thing.

I don't know what the laws are in your state, but I'd call. This cat needs care. Just saying he's not yours isn't enough IMO.
 
Trying to catch him and put him in a carrier is an open inviatation to getting bitten and scratched. The local animal control doesn't handle cats since they aren't licensed in New York State. I think the neighbor that feeds these cats would be the likely one to assume the responsibility.
 
No..no..this is STANLEY... he's a miniature labradoodle 14 now.. with dementia bless his paws... the other stanley is a pretender to the crown..:ROFLMAO:

Diabetes ? ....... My cat "Spike" displayed the same signs one night back in 2011 ...... I took him to the Vet/hospital. They said it was a stroke , .. and during this time he was also having a heart attack. They went on to say that .... if he survived the night ?...... he would never be right again. They recommended euthanasia . It felt like I was ripping my heart out of my chest but ..... I agreed.

He has been gone all these many years ....... And I still miss the little fur-ball.

He was 14 years old.
 
Poor Stanley isn't burdened by all of the information we have about his situation.

I would put out a bowl of water and food, and try to make a comfortable spot on the stoop for him to hang out if he chooses.

Check FB for local animal rescue groups that might be able to provide a more permanent solution.

Don't feel guilty deb. It's too much for you. I'm sure you're doing the best you can. That's all we can ever do.
 
This story about this cat reminds me of a dog we used to have. When the dog was young one or two years he was hit by a car and his hips were dammaged. He grew up strong and was able to walk but when he got old he could not walk very far because his hind legs were weak or they pained him.
 
I know what I went through with my last two cats. One had abdominal cancer and the other contracted kidney failure. Spent a lot of money, trips to the vet, expensive medines and the end result was the same - they both eventually succumbed. Even if I managed to get it to a vet, treatment would probbaly involve similar treatment (which I'm sure this cat would not tolerate well since it is not used to being handled) and like my other two, the end result would be the same. I don't know how old this cat is. I sent a PM to the vet I was going to and explained thr situation. So far, she hasn't answered back.

That's why we put animals to sleep. With serious illnesses, treatment only prolongs their suffering.

Yeah, it is rather funny. Like they'll wake up later...........
But then, we don't say a person "Died;" we'd rather say "Passed." Like they just walked by........ :giggle:
Or, "Gone," like they'll be back. :giggle:
