Maybe I'm just behind on trends despite subscribing to GQ. But today I was at the store and the clerk had a mustache that was a sight to behold. This young man was under thirty and otherwise reasonably attractive. I'm not down with sports people but wasn't there a Rollie Fingers with that look? Dali?

You know like long and waxed like the potato chip guy? I've seen beards as a trend on younger guys too. My son has a well trimmed kind of Amish thing going on. His brother a shorter version with light mustache. I mean facial hair can look great on some guys, but the waxed mustache...barbershop quartet much?

I think it's cool, but then I'm not the one wearing it.

What I really don't like is the old trend of guys looking like they couldn't be bothered to shave for a few days. It isn't a beard and it isn't clean-shaven - it's in a Purgatory all its own.

I know some ladies find it attractive, but to me it just looks lazy, like they're trying too hard to look like they're not trying.

I've kept a trimmed mustache since I was 19......I've tried growing a beard a couple times but it grows thick in places and thin in others, kinda ends up looking like a rat with the mange. :)

I never liked facial hair on men until I met my husband, which he had none of for our first three years. Then he lost a bet at work and had to quit shaving for three months. I just loved it. It was soft, and had great red highlights, so for the next 45 years he always wore a beard. Here is a picture when he was trying to learn how to control it, and one od him shortly before he died. His mother never forgave me for getting him to wear a beard, but he looked great with it.

I don't like draggin' something really sharp across my face these days, so I'd skip a day or two, which the wife grumbled about the prickly whiskers. I quit shaving and grew a beard, I keep it at a #4 clipper length. It looks decent, my wife's happy...I'm happy.

Okay son, they put wax on and rip that sucker out...no way in heck if it's been shaved than more a decade good enough...nooooo
