Suspect claims pot psychosis made her stab/kill boyfriend, stab her dog and self.

If she stabbed him for no reason and then thought it was a bad thing to do, wonder why she stabbed herself and her dog to change the probable outcome from 20 years in prison to life without parole in an asylum?

It's not common at all. Only about 1% of cases use the insanity defense. It just gets a lot of media coverage every time it's used because people are outraged to think that a sick person might not be punished enough for their satisfaction.

Nowhere does it say she was a chronic user.
I am a "chronic user," and I only get sleepy. The whole "pot psychosis" excuse is unadulterated bullshit.

If 5 in 200 drunks go nuts and kill people, and 1 in 200 drug addicts go nuts and kill people... do we really want more going nuts and killing people?

Seems like a pretty weak argument to encourage drug abuse.
..not "encouraging' drug abuse, just not making more people criminals for what they are already doing.

An LEO once explained the human mind this way to me after.
There is no correct answer, I simply take the facts of a case and
situational awareness does the rest. There is no momentary all
commentary answer. A mind does what it does. There is no limit.
You check back, an old guy drives a tank down the street over cars
and stuff. A young guy up in a tower shoots people one at a time.
A kid walks into a school or an eating place or Waldo World and
Shoots away. A guy that looks like he is a Homeless drives an
18 wheeler through a crowd at a Fair grounds. Nutz is all.

Marijuana psychosis, also known as cannabis-induced psychosis, is a condition that can occur in some people who use marijuana. Basically, it's a temporary state of psychosis that is brought on by the use of marijuana.
Psychosis is a serious mental condition that involves a loss of touch with reality. Symptoms can include hallucinations, delusions, disordered thinking, and difficulty understanding what is real and what isn't. In cases of marijuana psychosis, these symptoms are thought to be caused by the effects of marijuana on the brain.
It's important to note that marijuana psychosis is relatively rare, and it's usually only seen in people who use marijuana heavily or who have a pre-existing mental health condition like schizophrenia. But for those who do experience it, it can be really scary and distressing, and it's important to seek professional help.

My partner, Misa's younger brother, 56, has had a psychotic breakdown recently. He was heavy into drinking, pot, mushrooms, and other drugs. He is now hallucinating scenarios of paranoia regularly. Misa has been studying cannabis psychosis, and finds many similarities with her brother and people who have sought help. It is not BS.

I use pot everyday and have on and off for 55 years. Some pot has left me pretty dysfunctional, and I have done some outrageous stuff will real high in the distant past. Who knows for sure. In this case she could just be using pot as an excuse for being very troubled. Maybe not. The strength of pot is like more than twice what it once was, as growers improve on their growing techniques. Now days it is a good idea to talk with a pot doctor before you use it for medical reasons. But, recreational pot is legal in a lot of states, and people are driving cars, and going to work blasted. I think a certain respect is due while using it.

I cannot believe ANY of you are buying that excuse. Really? Are you that misinformed about pot? Before you judge, I suggest you try some. You will feel foolish.

There is good Pot and Bad Pot. If what you do gives you bad reactions it's a buildup of the Bad Pot. Change what you do and you will get better, leave the bad stuff alone. The pens are not always the best stuff you can do. Change quickly. Basically if you cannot tollerate your
Stuff you got to change. More mellow, less stress, that sort of stuff. Pain is a different story. Get what works best. You don't want the nervoust skitters stuff with pain thresholds off the chart. You want to smooth it down, chill, relax.

You just have to know what you're getting. Dispensaries label their products really well and the people behind the counter know their stuff.

You rarely know what you're getting when you buy from ...uh, a friend.

Sure, it's great if you can grow your own, but that's *prohibited in some places and regulated everywhere. Grow 1 plant more than allowed and you'll find yourself talking to a judge.

My brother grows his own. He balances the ph, tests the water and the soil and all that, and he does a bunch of cross pollinating by hand to get what he wants. And it totally kicked my arse before I took a third hit.

*while it's legal in Calif, it is prohibited in low-income communities, group homes, and assisted living centers, which are private residences, as well as 500ft from libraries, kid's schools and their sporting events, all federal, state, and county properties, and...well, basically wherever there's a No Smoking rule.

I highly doubt Miss Stabby-High's defense will get her off. It's asking a lot from her attorney, but maybe he's highly trained in this type of case. High Who knows?

Her attorney did get off getting a sentence of 2 years probation, no prison and 100 hours community service. See post 38.

The state's own shrink set the table by saying she did experience a psychotic episode, she never denied killing him.

The father is mad at the judge and said his son would've purchased the pot from a dispensary(does he really know that?) ie not laced with something else which is the speculation. Called the judge biased from the beginning of the trial. The victim and killer were only dating a couple of weeks and said his son treated her right(how does he know that). That being said look for the legal pot laws and insanity defenses to be reviewed even if it takes a lawsuit.

Said the sentence just gave a 'license to kill' to everyone in the state.

Marijuana can affect people differently and can induce a state of paranoia in some individuals. Here’s a more detailed explanation:
  1. Individual Differences: The effects of marijuana can vary from person to person, depending on several factors such as genetics, age, gender, the quantity and strength of the marijuana, and how it is consumed12. For instance, THC, the psychoactive compound in marijuana, can produce highly rewarding effects in some individuals, leading to relaxation and decreased anxiety. However, others may experience paranoia, cognitive problems, or an increased risk of developing schizophrenia3.
  2. Paranoia: Paranoia describes an irrational suspicion of other people. You might believe people are watching you, following you, or trying to harm you in some way4. When you use cannabis that’s rich in THC, your brain suddenly receives more cannabinoids than usual. This excess of cannabinoids may overstimulate the amygdala, a part of your brain that helps regulate your response to fear and related emotions, like anxiety, stress, and paranoia4. This could explain why products rich in cannabidiol (CBD), a cannabinoid that doesn’t directly bind to endocannabinoid receptors, don’t seem to cause paranoia4.
  3. Risk Factors: Not everyone experiences paranoia after using cannabis. Factors that might make someone more likely to experience it include genetics, the THC content of the marijuana used, and the individual’s sex4. For example, using marijuana with higher THC content or consuming a lot of cannabis at once may contribute to paranoia and other negative symptoms4.
It’s important to note that while some people may find the effects of marijuana enjoyable, others may have negative experiences. Always consult with a healthcare professional for advice tailored to your specific circumstances.

That you, WIT.

Man. That's a tough one, right? There must have been precedence...you don't have to fill me in on that, I'll check the link or look it up. I'm interested. Maybe this case set precedence. And maybe she has a psych history. Again, I'll investigate.

I'm with the dad at this point, though. Totally.

My brother's youngest son was stabbed to death by his cousin. They were both under 18, so that was pertinent, I guess. They'd gotten into a heated argument over some Bible passages and the cousin "lost his head". The cousin got a very light sentence and several years of probation.

My brother, a devout fundamental Christian, forgave his nephew and quickly moved on with his life, believing his brutally murdered son is with Jesus, forever 16, and as ecstatic as a soul can be.

I couldn't do it, man. No freaking way. But my bad, I guess ....except I'm 100% certain I wouldn't burn in hell for never ever getting over someone ending my son's life with a freaking kitchen knife over something so stupid.

This is a slippery slope. State legalizes substance known to cause psychosis among other issues. The excuse abuse door is now open for business.

Most drugs enable a person to act on existing thoughts and emotions. They don't manufacture them.
Yeah, this opened a really big door. I'm sure there will be legislative changes, but I'm betting it will take a decade or more.

I know who your brother's mother was. I'm disgusted.
