TAI CHI Has Anyone Taken or is Taking Tai Chi?

I am going this morning to a local Tai Chi Center to see about taking classes. It's Pronounced( TIE CHEE)

I took it once, but only one class. The schedule didn't fit mine so I didn't continue. Years ago I had a Tai Chi video and enjoyed practicing it.

Where's Phil when you need him.

If I recall correctly wasn't Tai Chi developed as ancient feudal times defense art for women and this is why it is frequently practiced by seniors?

Let us know how it goes, Lon. I hope to take classes with Sifuphil at some point. Free of course!

Free?

I'll pay YOU. :playful:

WIT, are you sure you aren't thinking of Wing Chun? It's the art that Bruce Lee started off with and was invented by a nun.

T'ai-Chi (Taijiquan) IS, however, a very old fighting art. It isn't taught that way very much in the West, though - here the emphasis is on the health benefits, and along with the slow movements usually taught at the beginning it is attractive to seniors.

The gentleman in the white jacket is Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming - he was my "second teacher", from whom I learned advanced techniques.

I took a Tai Chi class many years ago, I believe it lasted for six weeks, one or two days a week. I enjoyed it very much, excellent master instructor. Lon, I highly recommend the experience.

No, but I would attend if there were a Tai Chi class within driving distance. My Silver Sneakers trainer also teaches the kick boxing class, I'll have to watch the class sometimes to see whether I'm physically up to it.

Mrs Lightning has been doing Tai Chi for many years, first in Hampshire and now in Scotland. The styles are slightly different, but she finds it great for posture and general wellbeing. I did Judo (BJA) for a number of years - got as far as Blue belt.
