Take a second and sniff yourself.

You should consider putting a bung in the other end! When you eat sprouts, bacteria in the stomach and intestine will attempt to break them down and will release a variety of gases in the process including nitrogen, methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen.

Yes, I know about that, Horsey, I call it farting, and when I do them, you would be wise to be elsewhere. 😊

Old geezers of my youth often smelled of pipe tobacco. I don't smoke my pipe every day, but when I do I'm sure that my clothes carry a ghost of the aromatic tobacco I prefer.

Old women of my youth often carried the essence of "Evening in Paris" wherever they went. When in HS, I worked in a town drugstore and used to sell gallons of that stuff to the nice old ladies who traded at the store.

I smell faintly of bath soap, shampoo, and underarm deodorant. Old Spice Foxcrest was my preferred product until they apparently stopped making it. My one cat apparently loves my shampoo, going to the back of my couch and licking and pulling on my hair.

I can remember the horror of visiting elderly female relatives and acquaintances as a child. They’d insist on kissing me on the cheeks, leaving a residue and aroma of lipstick, pancake makeup, and assorted strange-smelling concoctions…

On a city bus as an early teen on my way to school , I had to get off, the perfume smell was so bad i was about to barf ! I waited for the next bus, arrived at school late , went through all that , had to stay late and ...... On the bus back home ... I spotted one of the women that wore the horrible stuff. Waited for the next one there as well.

When i finally did get home ... my mother wanted to know where in the world I had been. When I explained it all to her ... she just shook her head.

Since it was just after 'sports' season ... it was no big deal.

That stuff smelled so bad, we always called it "Evening in Hoboken".

Probably some unique truth in that notion about some older people but it is definitely does not apply to this person.

"The sweat doesn't really produce an odor itself. It's the bacteria that we have on our skin," says Dr. Constantine George, an internal medicine specialist and founder of Hygeia Health & Wellness in Las Vegas. "We're a petri dish walking on two legs. When bacteria have a wet or moist environment, they tend to thrive and grow. And when bacteria thrive and grow, they can produce their own odors." There are two types of sweat glands. Eccrine glands are the most common, and can be found throughout the body, secreting sweat directly onto the skin. Apocrine glands can be found in areas like the armpits and groin, and dump their sweat into hair follicles first...

So we've all got bacteria. Why don't we all smell the same? One of the big reasons is diet, which makes a lot of sense, given the whole
"you smell like what you eat" cliche. Wait, is that how it goes? As Dr. George explains, "Let's say you eat garlic, onions, and spicy foods that have odors. That can be a problem." As your body digests these foods, compounds are produced and released through the pores of the skin, and all of a sudden you smell like a refrigerator crisper that hasn't been cleaned in months...
There's an even more obvious answer:
Some people are just dirty. Other explanations for why human beings smell different from each other include hygiene and health. Consider one's lifestyle. People who are dirtier than others are going to have more bacteria on their bodies -- especially if they don't shower often.

David777 has a sensitive sense of smell. Walking down neighborhood streets love to stick my nose into roses. Out in natural landscapes, my nose gets close to wildflowers, vegetation and much else. Foul or strong smells, body odors, wafting off people make me move elsewhere. Dislike smells of gyms and unventilated public restrooms. Prefer the skin smell of freshly clean women versus perfumed. If the above page is true I'm doing much of, then that explains why I smell so little. Can wear socks for days and they almost smell fresh. Am unusually clean, not very hairy, cool skin temperature, high sweating threshold, hate sweaty, sticky, itchy, grubby. Even when out on the trail strenuously backpacking where one can pick up a lot of dirt, I am the odd one that almost daily jumps into water regardless of how cold. Eat little meat, spicy foods, or alcoholic beverages. Do eat lots of sugar, so maybe that's why I'm so sweet? 🌹
