I don't understand the mentality that thinks because the children were in the back seat they would never look for and find that unsecured gun. How is pointing out an unsecured gun not part of an article about the use of a gun? I am not opposed to guns just opposed to children having access to an unsecured gun. Or do you know for a fact she took the gun out and secured it in a safe in her home? Or that her 4 yr. old could never find the gun?
I didn't read anywhere in the article that the woman told the carjacker to stop or be shot. Seeing her with a gun in her hand should get his attention. I really don't understand shooting the carjacker in the face, why not in the leg? Heat of the moment maybe. Lack of firearm training? Probably just me after the fact thinking less chance of having the kind of accident she had. This would be a whole different story if the 4 yr. old had found the gun and shot his 2 yr. old brother. My point in presenting the portion of the article with the web site was to show that an unsecured as was the case here can have a downside.
Hero or lucky? I opt for lucky since she didn't lock her car while leaving her kids alone at that time of night. I'm guessing that it was cool enough then to be OK with leaving them in the car.
