Texas Mom Shoots Carjacker

well the mom sure knows what she did I'd say - and I'm sure KingsX will keep an eye open for the press releases??

I was wondering how she was able to get the gun out of the glove box from the back seat however it did say she jumped into the back seat but it didn't say which side. The driver's side or the passenger side. If she jumped into the back seat on the passenger side it would have been simple and it said she reached over the headrest. The story appears in different versions.

Partially standing it would be simple. I don't think it would be a superhuman feat.

In any case she and the children are safe. It's a good ending from my point of view even though plenty of mistakes were made prior to the incident. In reading further it was a convenience store she was picking something up. In another version she was paying for gas.

Hopefully this will bang some common sense & decency into potential car jackers.

Are you kidding? This will tip the carjacker off to look in the glove compartment first.

I dread to think what would have happened had he been able to get to the gun first.

What I hope it does is tip off people to be aware of car jacking and not leave their car unattended.

I don't understand the mentality that thinks because the children were in the back seat they would never look for and find that unsecured gun. How is pointing out an unsecured gun not part of an article about the use of a gun? I am not opposed to guns just opposed to children having access to an unsecured gun. Or do you know for a fact she took the gun out and secured it in a safe in her home? Or that her 4 yr. old could never find the gun?

I didn't read anywhere in the article that the woman told the carjacker to stop or be shot. Seeing her with a gun in her hand should get his attention. I really don't understand shooting the carjacker in the face, why not in the leg? Heat of the moment maybe. Lack of firearm training? Probably just me after the fact thinking less chance of having the kind of accident she had. This would be a whole different story if the 4 yr. old had found the gun and shot his 2 yr. old brother. My point in presenting the portion of the article with the web site was to show that an unsecured as was the case here can have a downside.

Hero or lucky? I opt for lucky since she didn't lock her car while leaving her kids alone at that time of night. I'm guessing that it was cool enough then to be OK with leaving them in the car.

To add to that car break ins to steal anything are common. What then if the gun was stolen and used to kill someone? All kinds of terrible scenarios can be considered when carelessness in securing a gun is discussed.
