The 2024 Olympics in Paris

I find it funny how Canadians get all excited and yell out…"HEY MAN! WE WON GOLD IN THE HAMMERTOSS!!!

But of course none of us know anything about the sport nor have any of us watched it before. lol!

I watched the entire opening ceremony. Poor people drenched by the rain, but they didn't care. Everyone looked so proud and happy. Loved the French opera singer singing the national anthem atop the Grand Palais, Brought tears to my eyes. Celine Dion was a surprise after all the hype about her illness. I loved the lighting of the Olympic cauldron. Good luck to all the competitors. I love watching Swimming, Athletics, Boxing, Track and Field and the Marathon.

I have always loved watching the best compete. I taught PE for years and had real field days where kids could compete for ribbons. I watched part of the opening ceremony and heard a great speech. You could see the joy and pride in many of the young people there to compete. Sportsmanship and an opportunity to make friends with people from all over the world. I like the ideals. I like watching the joy when when the win.

Chariots of Fire was a great movie about the Olympics. I remember when the newspaper (all but gone now) would have the medal count of us vs the Russians. Letting the best in the world decide on a track or in a pool etc to see who can claim BEST IN THE WORLD is a great thing to me. To me its all about the hard work and dedication in your event and trying to reach that pinnacle of success.

I noticed, but didn't watch (I DO have standards, low as they might be...) the episode entitled "Snoop Dogg Cheers on USA Swimming).

I think that was about the lowest they've reached since Katerina Witt's painful commentation at the (whenever it was) Olympics with her 15-English-word vocabulary.

I'm surprised Dogg didn't have his bestie, Martha Stewart, up there making suggestions on how much better the team's equipment could be stored ("white wicker baskets with a red-white-and-blue gingham liner") or lovely towels for the swimmers ("soft dusky rose with just a subtle hint of aqua and white embroidery") or improving the look of those bicycle seats ("a nice crocheted padded covering would give such a cottagy influence").

You nailed it! That's what the Olympics and this thread are all about!

I did the hammertoss in my high school Track & Field Olympics.

Also the shot-put and javelin throw.

Also the running broad jump...as it was called back then. But no foot racing, though. I was quick enough at running the bases on a baseball diamond, not so much on a track.

The Canadian Women's soccer team has been caught using a drone spy camera over the practice field of one of their opponents. The Olympic board has fined Soccer Canada $226,000, and suspended the female soccer coach, and 2 other officials, for a year. I don't give a rats behind about soccer, BUT this makes me angry. Canadian athletes SHOULD be better than this. NO CHEATING. If you can't win on the field, go home. Another thing. The Canadian men's basketball team has 12 members. 11 of them are black. Blacks in Canada as a national segment, make up 3 percent of our population of 40 million people. Why? or should I ask How?

White men can't jump?

China has had the best Table Tennis players in the world for a very long time. Very often the players who are not in the top 10 for their gender, emigrate to other countries, beat all the other players, get on the Olympic teams of their new country, and the Olympics are loaded with Chinese versus Chinese.

Watched the girls’ sand volleyball match today USA beats the Czech Republic. 21-12, I think.
