The banning of Marijuana

I ran across this article, and found it very interesting. It appears that Marijuana was banned in the days following the repeal of Prohibition....by a Washington Bureaucrat with excess time on his hands.

Today, that ban continues to be supported...mostly by the big drug companies who realize that they might lose Billions on their sales of "Pain Pills", if medical Marijuana became readily available.

If you toke up in your own home, cops don't care. If my senior ghetto condo board only knew! Selling prohibited. Can hardly wait until promised legalisation comes through very sooooon. Oh boy!

Yes, that would be nice. A lot of people are doing time for it or paying heavy fines. I think alcohol is worse of the two.

Well some months ago, last, year, people were standing out in front of my library to get use of medical marijuana back on the ballot vote this year and they did. I was more than happy to sign for it, I'm glad it made it's way back on. Not sure if it will ever make the cut for medical use much less recreational use in this state though people in the stater are trying to decriminalize it period. I wish success.

Decriminalizing it still doesn't solve the problem, though, if you think about it.

Up here, even if you smoke in your own home the neighbors will call SWAT on you.

Guess I meant making it legal, then should be aiming to make as legal as alcohol, since to me it's not worse for the wear from what I can tell of all the folks who are out there smoking it anyway.

Yes, legalizing it means you don't pay any fines for possession. Decriminalizing it just means they give you a fine and/or a lighter jail sentence.

I too view it as being regulated like alcohol.

I cannot stand marijuana . It makes me feel like gravity is trying to hold me down. But I don't care if someone else smokes. My youngest daughter smokes it... little fart.

That's not so bad - when you try to brush something off your shoulder and find out it's the floor, THEN you know you've had too much! :D

Funny. In Colorado, its 'legal'....well, I live in a HUD building which is under Federal Control...and pot in ANY form is illegal in my bldg... And, It still is illegal to smoke it in the 'open' ...such as bars, cafes.
Now this IS funny!!
YEARS ago...such as 35 or so... I used to take my kids to the movies on Saturday nites...and we always sat in the balcony where you could smoke... Well, so many of the younger crowd were smoking pot... and I usually was sound asleep through the 2nd movie of the double feature...So, kids would wake me, and we'ed happily trot off and go home! It was always relaxing! :D I've enjoyed this thread!

Just because I would say it's okay to make it legal, I would want the same clauses as cigarettes have, no smoking in public places, I'm not fond of the smell either. :playful:

It's no secret that cannabis is very effective when used as medicine, either for pain, epilepsy, complimentary treatment for cancer, and other diseases and conditions. Of course the big pharmaceutical companies don't like that, until they can control it and reap the profits while raping the sickly patients with high costs and less availability. It's legal where I live medicinally and for recreation. It's much healthier and less harmful than taking prescription drugs with serious side effects, and if I ever become really ill or in a lot of pain, I will be very grateful that I don't have to jump through hoops to get it. As far as I'm concerned it should be legal in every state, and hopefully it will someday, but it should have happened decades ago.

It's no secret to some of us that it also is a great for making love. I can't believe I said that! But it's true. :)
