The Best Singing Voices in Your Generation

Terry Kath of Chicago.

He could sing like Ray Charles, who was a great vocalist but I don't consider him to be of my generation. He was my parent's generation, although I don't think they ever listened to him.

Consistent quality of recorded powerful Classic Rock era voices:
Robert Plant, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brad Delp, Axl Rose, Ann Wilson, Steven Tyler, Mick Jagger, Bob Seger, Stevie Nicks.

Had to look up Brad Delp, but yes, Boston, very good reference. Who sings "Don't Stop Believing?" That's become a classic. Another couple of guys with great voices were Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship) and Mickey Thomas, who sang with Elvin Bishop and Starship (Remember "Fooled Around and Fell in Love?)

And for our Canadian friends, the guy from Guess Who who sang "Undun" (Bachmann? Turner? not sure) could really sing.

My parents used to listen to Ella Fitzgerald, I enjoy hearing her now.

For me, the best voice has to be Ella Fitzgerald. I didn't like the scat thing, but for plain singing, it's Ella. Most singers belt out a song. They are straining to hit notes, and they hit them. But Ella just opened her mouth, and the sound fell out, no effort, no straining, My other favorite is Roy Orbison. I liked 'Jay" of "Jay & The Americans".

Scoff not...Donald Fagen's voice rules! My favorite group ever

I love Steely Dan, but I would argue that they are great in spite of, rather than because of Donald Fagen's voice. It's perfect for them and their songs, but it's weird and nasal.
