I go long intervals without driving much at all. My grocery shopping is strategic, so I use Covid Era discipline and only have to buy stuff every so often. Twice in a month is "frequent" aside from short-life produce I buy very locally.
In 7 years I've only put about 16K miles on this car. Great except for cold Winter months and the battery. Cars have a lot of electronics that never shut off completely now. So once again, not enough battery to crank the engine today.
Used my Autowit SuperCap 2 and it turned right over. Getting the iced-up hood opened first was a challenge, so after starting the car I applied some hydrophobic silicone lube to the hood's rubber seal. The AutoWit reported that the car battery was charging. The sun came out, so I closed the hood, then took a scraper to the windows to clean things up and free the wiper blades of ice. Let it idle 30 minutes, something I rarely do.
Tomorrow I should be ready for a run to the grocery store for the monthly "big shopping."
I've had the car battery tested twice and it always passes, so the problem is really low driving. In warm months I use a solar trickle charger to fend off depletion, not really an option in the Winter.
This isn't new. I went through the same thing with my previous car after retiring. At least now I don't need to haul my Honda generator out there to charge the car battery like I did back then.
