The Best Thing To Happen To Me Today...

Believe it or not, and some may think this makes me a bad person, but the best thing that happened to me yesterday was my SIL got put in the hospital.

She lives with us, is completely bedridden and has only the partial use of one arm. It is a 24/7 situation, taking care of her. I'm lucky, because I have a full time job and get a break. My wife isn't so fortunate.

So, with her in the hospital with a UTI for the next 3-4 days, my wife is getting a much needed break. She slept in until almost 9 this morning. I was so happy for her.

Not for one second do I think you're a bad person..on the contrary I think you and your wife are earth's angels.. but even angels need respite... I hope you both are able to do things in the next few days which you've been unable to do while looking after your S-i-l...

Does she go into respite often?.. if not perhaps you should look into it...

Well, when she got to the point she couldn't take care of herself, (she has MS), we had a suite built on to our home, with all the handicap amenities, for the sole purpose of not putting her in a 'home'.

That was six years ago, and she's got a steady stream of nurses, doctors, aides, wound care people, pain management people, etc, that come through our house all week long.

It's to the point that we've even hired a girl three days a week just to do her laundry. it's 10-15 towels and 1/2 dozen wash clothes every time she has a shower. Not to mention her sheets and bed pads and whatnot getting changed every couple days, because her immune system is so weak, everything has to be kept clean. Add to that her clothes, and you're talking about an 80 lb person that never moves being responsible for 75-80% of the laundry.

Throw in the fact that she has to have every meal prepared a certain way, because her nutritional needs are very specific, the kitchen stays in operation almost all the time. No to mention special forks, spoons, bowls, etc.

I get home from work at 6am, and the first thing I have to do when I walk in the door, is fill her water bottles, empty her urine bag, check her colostomy bag, pull her up in the bed and shift her legs, straighten her feet (she has tremors while she sleeps and slides down the bed), give her all her early morning meds (she takes them at 6 different times a day), fill her dehumidifier, add or remove blankets and add or remove socks, depending on if she's hot or cold.

Once I get her all situated, then I take the dogs out back to play frisbee. LOL.
 
OMG...she really is in a dire straits... but what wonderful people you are to give her a home and basically live your whole lives around her

I have never heard of anyone being so ill with MS..
Both my brother and my mother-in-law had MS... My mother -in-law was in a very luxurious nursing home for the last few years of her life .. but she was fine, in the sense altho' she was wheelchair bound, she was capable for the most part of seeing to her own bathing etc as long as someone was nearby ... and she died some years ago

My elder brother , age 78 lives at home with his eldest son who looks after his major needs.. but there again he is not in any way disabled as your s-i-l.. and can cope pretty much with his own care ..

Yes, you hit the nail right on the head. We live our entire lives around her.

That's why I said the best thing to happen was her going into the hospital for a few days. LOL.
 
It's been an awesome near 80F day here, too much sun, i got a sunburn. ... :devilish: ... :ROFLMAO: ...
The future for Friday evening doesn't look good with bad storms a brewing.
12 Tornados and flooding too in areas of the middle / south midwest. Oh shucks, its spring anyway Duck and cover!
Thats what the Weather girls saying now.

Taking out the trash this morning I found a frisky playful Beagle in my backyard that matched the ‘Lost Dog’ posters around town. I called the number and a woman and her little daughter came to pick it up. I declined the reward. Seeing the dog run and jump into the little girl’s arms and lick her face was payment enough.

Today the best thing that happened to me was taking our dogs for a walk
