The half million dollar wedding outfit

I just came across an article on Amal Clooney's wedding outfit that she wore to the "royal" wedding.

Wow ! $500,000 for a wedding outfit ?

I don't get it. Heck, I can not even imagine it.

Why does a woman need to go to such lengths ?

Is it some sort of competition among women ?

The 17-carat diamond earrings helped to run up the tab for the outfit.

I'm not sure if it is true in this case but many times the wealthy don't actually buy or own the clothes or jewelry.

Often times the items are on loan from the designer for the event and the publicity generated is worth more than traditional advertising.

This also happens with hotels, restaurants, airlines, etc...

It's all done just to keep the wannabees drooling and dreaming.

Yes, but I'd still like to know why Amal Clooney, or any other woman for that matter, feels a need to put herself on display ? Is it a female contest thing ? Sure seems like it. Could someone pls explain ?

It’s my understanding that women dress to impress other women more than they dress to impress their lover and yes I do believe it’s a competition. Many women dress to show off their financial & social status. Expensive designer labels are apparently impressive. Usually these are business women but not always.
This is just my opinion but I don’t really understand women either.
We can be a complex species I suppose.

Perhaps to some women, designer clothes and expensive jewellery signify the same thing as Lamborghinis and other flashy expensive cars do to some men?

Absolutely. Designers want popular celebrities to be seen wearing their products.
Its great advertising for them so any red carpet event is a perfect opportunity.
So true.

Good, solid, honest answer. Thank you.

Question: Would you say the competition has some real, or perceived, reward for the winners of the contest ? As in, perhaps, a feeling of superiority over other women ?

I've had a few women tell me that they "size-up" other women to see who is better dressed, better figure, more desirable etc.

Side note: See C'est Moi ? Just a simple question, sans malice. . Surely there can be nothing wrong with that ?

If you fancy something a bit different, this one (on display in Sheffield) is woven from stainless steel wire, and lined with silk.
Sheffield is the steel capital of the UK and was known for high quality steep produce.

I've seen some pretty silly "fashions" but that American express card dress takes the cake for silliness. I'd be embarrassed to be seen with her.

You may be correct. It may come down to attention seeking behavior. If so, there are one heck of a lot of women who need attention.

Amal Clooney looked beautiful though inappropriate but no one complained so I guess they're above Royalty. It was all wrong for the wedding...ANY wedding. Bright canary yellow, from head to toe, a train (just the bride wears a train) and bright red glossy lips. You're suppose to blend into the crowd and not steal the show. It's about the bride. But, aside from cost, I'm the only one calling her out on it as far as I know. Nothing in the media even?

Good point. Compare the clothing of both Amal and George. One screams, 'Look at ME' ; the other says 'Average guy going to work'.

That comment is going to get you in trouble Traveler...again. There's no comparison between male and female here. Comparing the way a woman dresses to the way a man dresses is like comparing apples and oranges. It's normal for a female to dress attractively....just not stealing the show at a wedding that's meant for the bride. And not outrageously overspending (threw that in to stay on topic).

Women dressing to be attractive to the opposite sex is part of creation...and procreation.

When I look at that picture and the expression on George Clooney's face I see a well-dressed woman and a man that is letting the world know that he is more than capable of taking care of the woman he loves.
