The historic farm water pump

Yes they do work very well.
When I was a young child my family stayed with my Grampa, he had a water pump.
I remember (pump,pump,pump.) (squeak,squeak,squeak)
Some of my family out of state still have them. Most of course have both pumps and modern tap running water.
That's a good memory!
I forgot the squeek part. 😁😆😅

It was helpful to fill large watering cans to water vegetable plants, and also was useful to wash off hands and gardening tools.

Pump, pump, pump....squeak, squeak, squeak 🙃😊🤣🤣😃

When I was a kid there were still a few of these wooden water pumps around, most of them were pretty well worn out and rotten.

Wooden Water Pumps

The farmers used to use these old ram pumps to pump large volumes of water uphill to provide water for home and farm, watering livestock etc…

They make a popping sound on the order of a loud heartbeat as they pump.

Sort of a perpetual motion machine.

I remember...
If the water pump had not been used yet that day, we would need to prime the pump.
Pump it, some dirt would spit out, pump it until the water was clear, then the water was good to drink.
We had to stand back a little ways or the dirt/water would splash all over us when it spit out.
As children we had a lot of fun with the water pump.
