There have been many discussions on this forum about world events, Holly. Every conflict between groups of people isn't automatically "political." But it would be useful for us to have a definition of what constitutes politics.
I would think politics is about elections, candidates, political parties, how people should vote, the running of government, and so on. The endless conflict in the Mideast is about ancient competition which never seems to end, for the same piece of land, about contempt for a religion other than one's own, and about just plain hatred. It's tribal rather than political.
Of course, we can find a political overlay in nearly everything we talk about. Discussions about police brutality, demonstrations, masks and vaccines, pro-choice vs. pro-life, Confederate flags, racism, gender identity, job equality, and nearly everything else that is the slightest bit controversial, usually has a thin (or not so thin) political overlay. So, where do we draw the line?
