True. But other Royalists, especially in the South, remained in the USA.

Some historians think the American Civil War was a continuation of the English civil wars... Yankee Republican Puritans versus Southern Royalist Cavaliers. Southerners were closer to England and had hoped England would ally with the South.
 

Some people, including my girlfriend, are totally into the Royals. As if they were a separate human species to be studied. Like how many times they hold hands at events. And OMG!! If they DON"T!!!

But isn't that true of most posts on this or any other forum?

Very few of us have first hand knowledge of what we post about; we simply give our thoughts and opinions, yes and even speculation. That's what public debate is all about.
 

's weird he would go from wearing a Nazi uniform to marrying a half-black. Confused fellow, that one.

Placing any significance in a boyish prank that took place some years ago is a bit shortsighted. Even at the height of the war the Nazis were always mocked.

I remember when I first joined the service in 1953, on of our number dressed in full bottle green uniform, jackboots, high crowned cap, red swastika armband, the full works, flung the doors open as to the manner born and strutted into our bar.

Instantly 300 15 to 17 old trainees were om their feet, ramrod straight, right arms raised "Zeig Heiling" fit to bust.

This was only eight years after the war's end, with rationing still in place, and the Senior Ranks bar, literally across the road, just 40 feet away, was full of non-coms with chests full of war medals.

No-one thought anything of it, just a bit of fun (though I have no doubt the left wing press, very powerful at the time, would have had a field day if they'd heard of it!).

The British royal family is Germanic [King George V changed his German name to Windsor in 1917.]

Prince Phillip's sisters were married to German princes who were also members of Hitler's NS party.

The British royal family is not Germanic, but German, and has been for many years.

Queen Victoria was brought up by her German grandmother in a German speaking household and spoke nothing but German at home.

She became a Saxe Coburg Gotha, on her marriage, and, political correctness notwithstanding, that is the name of her male descendants, including the Queen's father, KGVI, and his mother, the Queen's grandmother was Princess Mary of Teck, so he was a pure bred German.

On marriage the Queen became a Battenburg (wives of her generation took their husband's name), again ignoring political correctness, and so she remains, as do all her male progeny, up to and including young George, one day to be George VII.

I do not need Wiki to teach me my own recent history!

Just WOW! I don’t follow the Royal family at all but one thing I know without a doubt was that Diana was the best thing that ever happened to that family and possibly the most loving / compassionate human the world has ever known.
Shes the one who brought love and compassion to this family.
Controlling?? SHE was the one who was trying to BE CONTROLLED by this Royal family and SHE had enough balls to NOT LET THAT HAPPEN! That stiff upper lip crap ( translated - COLD & HEARTLESS ) she didn’t want to put up with so didn’t.

WAY to GO DIANA. You will ALWAYS be a shining diamond to MOST of the WORLD!!!

I have endless admiration for that unforgettable , magnificent woman.
She will live in our hearts forever ! :heart:

I agree here......I couldn't care less about the royals , but I did like Diana. Not just her beauty either, I liked the woman.

She was a manipulating harpy who played the press like a fish and who never so much as blinked without seeing what was in it for Diana.

She's not the first long legged blonde to fool the world and she won't be the last.

Compassionate? She couldn't even spell the word. The Queen Mother had more compassion in her toenail clipping than Diana showed in the whole of her self centred life.

People have hearts. She communicated to people through her heart so much so that people all over the world who couldn’t give a hoot about the royals suddenly were taking note. It wasn’t her physical beauty that captured people, (although she WAS physically beautiful) It was her inner beauty people were drawl to. People throughout the world finally realized that the Royals could have a heart. They could be warm blooded after all. The only people who disapproved were the cold bitter stiff upper lipped Brit’s.
 
The Queen Mother had more compassion than Princess Diana’s toe nails???
Perhaps in you’re world. I think I know of one other person in the world who would agree with you but she hates everyone :shrug:

I understand people can be shallow but the entire world isn’t. Maybe that’s all Laurie sees but he IS male after all.

My point is... history is interesting... especially the history of European royalty.

Before WW1 ruined Europe, most European royalty was German.

King George V of Britain, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia were all cousins. The Tsar and Kaiser wrote personal letters to each other trying to avoid war [WW1]. By the end of the war, Kaiser Wilhelm was forced to abdicate... Tsar Nicholas was forced to abdicate, then Tsar Nicholas and his entire family were brutally murdered by the bolsheviks... and King George had changed his German family name to Windsor.

Btw... Tsar Nicholas wife, Alexandra, was a German princess and Queen Victoria's granddaughter. Alexandra and her sister, Elizabeth [also a German princess married to Russian royalty] were both murdered/martyred by the evil bolsheviks on the same day and are now saints in the Russian Orthodox Church.
