The Sun Returns! Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice 10:48 tomorrow night. The real reason we celebrate. Christians complain that the season has lost its meaning. It may be losing its connection to the celebration of Christ's birth which has a separate meaning all its own, and was arbitrarily assigned to December 25th. The original and valid reason for our celebrations at this time is the return of the Sun with its warmth and promise of the rebirth of life.
So happy Sun day Monday everyone. The wheel has turned! :sunshine:

It's hot over here right now and the bush fire season is in full swing. In the past week fires have ravaged parts of Victoria. Last month Western Australia and South Australia were in flames.

January and February will also be very hot so the Summer solstice over here doesn't mean a lot. We just look forward to cool southerlies in the evening. If they don't arrive, we swelter in bed.

Happy Sun day Monday Underock! :sunglass:

YAY -- I hate the days being so short. Kind of depressing, even.

For all Druids, Witches & Warlocks.

Happy Solstice.

Last night was the longest night in the Northern Hemisphere
and the shortest in the Southern Hemisphere.

There were great numbers of believers at Stonehenge last
night to celebrate this event. I drove past Stonehenge twice
last week, going to and coming from Cornwall, the place was
bleak and deserted.

Ten Things about December Solstice

There are lots of information about the solstice in Google
for those who are interested.

Used to live there, just a few hundred yards away.

Damned nuisance at the time of the Summer Solstice. The Great Unwashed would steal anything that wasn't nailed down to use for firewood or sell for drugs.

Been there many times, nice place for a picnic in quieter times Did nothing for me, not like Culloden which filled me with a feeling of heartache and desolation (I am not a Scot), and I've already mentioned my wife's physical distress at the witches' execution site in Cornwall. Now there's a county with an atmosphere which you can cut with a knife!

Happy Soltice and Yuletide to all you Druids. I'm personally delighted the sun will be lengthening our days once again. All this darkness falling so early brings my spirits down. Spring is just around the corner.

Happy Winter Solstice -- tho' a bit late.

I'm not looking forward to longer days because with them comes the horrible Summer heat!
For years I dreaded Winter -[ once I aged past being a kid ]- living next door to Canada.
Now I dread Summer.
:)

I dread it, too. I hate the godawful heat, but I hate the freezing cold, too, and it's way colder than usual here this winter. Guess I'm never happy.
