All well and good but, this is an open forum , and I will once again voice my contempt for this rule, as the subject effects us all, each & every day.

What is everyone so afraid of, concerning this topic ?
What ever made you think this (or any other interwebz forum) is an "open forum"?? This one is restricted by age, using it to promote your own business is not allowed, verbal attacks on other members are not allowed, pornographic material is not allowed, some topics are not allowed, etc, etc. I am on several other forums and they all have their own rules and restrictions. Try reading the TOS sometime.

No one is afraid of the topic of politics, but experience tells any thinking person that the discussions quickly devolve into name calling and trading other insults. This site is a welcome respite from that. Why are you so afraid of going to one of the many sites that do allow politics and put in your two cents worth? Man up and go visit one of them. Just make sure you have on your asbestos underwear....

I visit several sites/forums ..... only one other disallows politics.

What better way to allow something to go on unchecked/ignored, and spread as it is. Think Germany in the 30's Everyone going along with the 'current norm' with no regard or thought to the alternative.

If during any debate, about any topic, if folks cannot conduct themselves in a respectable manner ? Then deal with them at that time. IMO, so much better than disallowing any & all discussion on the topic.

why are you arguing with members over this..,... it sounds like you've got a real bee in your bonnet about this, argue with @Matrix, see how far that gets you...

Whatev - fact is this topic has been settled for this site. If you think it too restrictive, then take your opinions elsewhere

Godwin's Law this early in a thread? o_O All because someone in the free world doesn't want the hassle of refereeing political arguments on his social forum? You just trivialized a horrific time in history.

The issue has dragged on & on & on & on. When we visited the UK, the locals were sick of discussing the issue because it dragged on & on for so long. Seems that 48 % wanted to stay but 52 % wanted out. I don't live there but we have close friends & family there. I know that it wouldn't please everyone. No major issue ever does. All I can say is "Good Luck" & I hope that it works out.

I believe the trivialization is on on you is it not? As i see the importance in both. If today's politics get [out of hand] due to lack of discussion/folks paying attention , we could well drift back to the tyranny of the past.

I'll state my opinion when & where I choose. i have not yet voiced an opinion on politics, only on the restriction of that topic........And i oppose that restriction.

Dude: You weren’t here when we had politics as a category. People can become mean. Some of them you would never expect. Friends were lost. Members were sending PM’s to other members calling them vial names and making rude comments. It was ugly.

Matrix did the right thing in order for this forum to survive. It was the right decision.

No argument, I have seen it before on other forums...but...No one says anyone must participate in any topic. If the thread headline says it contains politics ? Don't go there. Lets those of us who can handle ourselves/behave properly discuss the topic.

We did all that and the environment never improved. The members were given numerous warnings, but even that didn’t help or get the point across. The abuse never stopped. The only option left was to remove the category.

@rgp, we probably banned 20 active members and still couldn't have civil political discussions, @SeaBreeze and I were really exhausted and upset. It's just not possible to continue running SF like that.

When SF was a small forum with like 20 members, it's easy to handle. But when it became big (1000 posts per day without politics), I realized that there would be only three kinds of senior forums:
  1. Senior forums for Democrats
  2. Senior Forums for Republicans
  3. Senior forums without politics
I chose the third one.

OK,OK...But I just think it is a damn shame when the single most important subject in the land cannot be discussed. We must all live under the cloak of politics/government .

I am ambiguous:
Politics rules our lives, but, but, otherwise rational people go insane when
politics is discussed?
"How can you be so stupid?"
Stand back and watch the fur fly.
I've only been to one political web site-it was more profane than six sailors.

I like to discuss religion, but there too-the posts can become snitty and critical.
I suppose it depicts all of us: If you do not agree with my position, your just plain dumb.

I thought the exit of Britain was a done deal.
Watching BBC on topic, lots on snits hurled...

Well, you are correct, but when I start discussing the govt, I cannot avoid
slurring the politicians. Also, there is an element of humor on dragging these 'fat men
and ladies' in the mire.
Cloak-boy you got that right.

And there it is - the core reason politics is banned on this site. You know full well that politics as a topic is banned, yet you keep whining and sniveling about, even on a thread about Brexit. This inability by a few poster to show basic common courtesy is why politics is banned.

You're welcome.:)

I for one like this forum without politics. If you need to discuss politics you can always join one or many of the forums that discuss them.

I understand that, it has been suggested several times before.....But that has nothing to do with being here. There are several here, that I have come to respect/admire their opinion on many things , and their political opinion would be of interest to me.

However, Matrix took the time to explain himself [thank you] and due to that, I'll step aside.

And there it is> You confuse whining & sniveling with well thought comments.

As for the thread [stray] it strayed before me but......I confess I did add to it.....my apologies to the group as a whole.
