There is a new manager at my workplace

He has been here for a month and is an over zealous micro manager.
The place is no longer the harmonious work site it once was.
So I have decided to look for work elsewhere.
I have lodged an application yesterday. I will not delude myself, at 64, the odds of my even getting an interview are very slim.
Should no interviews be forthcoming then I will grit my teeth and do what is required in this job, without enthusiasm.

Sounds like your company knows what he’s like but don’t know what to do with him and are pushing him here and there in the hopes HE will quit. Too bad. I sincerely wish you luck in finding a new position and if that doesn’t pan out, then I can only wish you fortitude in carrying on. Best of luck.

Some things to consider before you make a decision.

How long have you worked there. Do you have a lot of vacation and sick days.
If you go elsewhere you will start at the bottom again. When I retired I had six weeks. New hires got one.

Do you know your job and are able to work independently. Theres something to be said about knowing your job well enuf to skate on a bad day. In a new job you will be the new guy. And under the watchful eye of a new manager.

Youre 64. How far are you from retirement. Do you feel like they might fire you if you dont tow the line.
If they lay you off there always unemployment.

Crunch the numbers. Worse case how would you make do. Its freeing to know that you could if you wanted to. Not saying you have to. Just that you could. If the numbers work relax. Show up. Do your job but dont stress.

There is a lot to consider.
Job security being one of them. I could stay here and see out my working life with this company
Or I could take the risk and go elsewhere. Who’s to say another place might be even worse?
I intend to talk to the new guy and have what will hopefully be a meaningful discussion.

I had a horrible micro manager at my last job. It was maddening. Regardless of the outcome of a task the most common response was "What you should have done was..." This man had no ability to asses situations, it either fit the policy manual or you were berated for going outside of policy, no matter how good or profitable the outcome, he considered it a failure. I managed to outlast him, he retired and his replacement was probably the best manager I ever worked with.

I've been in that situation. I had been with the company 25 years, and had consistently received good performance reviews.

After a new manager came in, I was subtly asked to spy on my immediate supervisor and make "confidential" reports. There was nothing negative to report.

So, on my next review, the new manager wrote me up for not sufficiently documenting my work. I then did an about face and documented every detail - then I was written up for "over documenting," among other issues too numerous to list, which were making every work day miserable.

I was only a year away from full retirement, so I left early. I don't know if you can do that, but for me, it was the right decision.

I had a job with a co-manager who was new and started making demands. I got upset with him and walked off the job and then wrote to the main office about his conduct and then he got transferred to another office witch was a step down for him. The ones at my office, I left, were so happy. I did get another job with better managers.

How much long service leave do you have up your sleeve?
