Things you won't find anymore...

I once had the pleasure some 24 yrs ago to cross over to the Isle of Bute of the coast of Scotland and stayed with friends, they lived in an Earls tied cottage for life - that was part of the deal working or retired. The motored us around showing us various interesting happens around the isle. One day we went into a local church hall and found small groups of people - male and female sitting there and discussing topics - I don't know how they seperated the topics out if they ever did. But it was peaceful and harmonious. This was the birth of the internet forums!! and I was there to witness it! One of the one great pleasures of my life!

I have one

Marbles was a serious game for us kids
You got to keep whatever you shot outa the circle
We all had steelies for shooters
You bet it was serious! When I played you could not use steelies or Rolly Pollie's for shooters. What we did use was Agate marbles for shooters... Like steelies, if you hit a marble, they would knock it out of the ring and stick where they made initial contact, thus you got another shot. If you were good, you could clean out the circle and pocket all the marbles...

I've lived in this "custom home" for 43 years. I installed the old roll down window shades in the two upstairs bedroom leaded glass windows that face south. They are for heat/light control, and are hidden behind white wood blinds. Well, one of them broke and I went to the local big box stores and only the older clerks recognized what I was after. Yup, they don't make them anymore.

I looked on Ebay - my go to source for so much - and none were on there either.

Not a major deal of course, but I sure was surprised.

Those roll down shades are sometimes still sold at Lowes.

An energy drink containing dissolved radium. It was eventually discontinued due to health risks.

Radithor was a patent medicine that is a well-known example of radioactive quackery and specifically of excessively broad and pseudoscientific application of the principle of radiation hormesis. It consisted of triple-distilled water containing at a minimum 1 microcurie (37 kBq) each of the radium 226 and 228 isotopes.

The time of Radithor and radioactive elixirs ended in 1932, with the premature death of one of its most fervent users, Eben Byers, an American golfer. This history led to the strengthening of regulatory control of pharmaceutical and radioactive products.
