This whole gender identification thing is going too far, for me!

I used to get this cashier at the grocery store, who was a very fast and efficient youngish male with a crewcut. I never talk to cashiers because I am almost deaf. One day I and my chatty daughter were at the checkout with this cashier and aterwards she told me ''he'' was a she, had a softer voice and she had seen her coming out of the women's room. I was totally shocked and next time I really looked and I couldn't even see ANY outline of a breast.

With all the labels about different sexual orientations, someday this will be a world without males or females. Gone are the days when homosexuals were the subtle ''confirmed bachelor'', now it's ''let it all hang out''.

I used to work with a transgender person before he retired. He worked for the company for almost 30 years. He started off dressing in the traditional male way, then gradually shifted to clothes that looked more female than male. Also he started wearing troupes and then a wig. Finally, he just came "out" as a woman. His transformation was not accepted well by most people at the company. He was looked at as kind of a freak and most people just didn't have anything to do with him. I used to go to lunch with him and a few co-workers. He ran into a bathroom problem, since he considered himself to be a female and wanted to use the women's bathroom. Well, the women didn't want him in their bathroom, he didn't want to use the men's bathroom, so he ended up using the bathroom in the basement of the building. I felt more sorry for him than anything and I have to say I think he showed courage staying the course in the face of all the adversity. I do think of him as a "he" though. He had a lot more "male" characteristics than I would call "female".

I think that if you are born male, have never had to deal with periods, worrying about getting pregnant every time you have sex, never gone through childbirth, never nursed a child, don't have to experience those damn hot flashes in menopause, then you are not a woman. If you are a man who feels like you are a woman trapped in a man's body, I don't know what to tell you. I think it's easy to feel that way when you have never had to deal with the physical side of being female. Being a woman isn't just psychological, it's a hell of a lot of dealing with the physical.

Gosh, now you've got me wishing I was born a guy. It really is hell being born a female, isn't it? How are you coping with it?

Well, I don't want anyone wishing they were born a guy. :p But I am in the throes of those hot flashes, and yes it seems like women are always dealing with physical stuff in whatever stage of life we are in.

I was lucky because I didn't start going through menopause until I was almost 59 and I had hot flashes off and on for only a year and had night sweats for a couple of weeks. I couldn't base what I would be going through based on my mother's experience because she had a total hysterectomy at around age 40. I know what you mean though in that I had periods at the most inopportune times. I will always remember when in Vienna I had gone with my cousin and his friend to a concert way out of Vienna and having to use one of those temporary outdoor toilets and I had my period which would have been bad enough without it. I forgot to lock the door and some guy opened it. But I didn't care much at that point. I just wanted out of there. And then when the concert was over and we went out to the car, the battery was dead because of leaving the headlights on and we sat there for literally hours until we got help. And I'm in the back seat suffering in silence. I would not let that happen in today's terms. I would tell them exactly what was going on and tell them get me the hell out of there stat unless they wanted me bleeding all over the back seat. LOL

LOL. And those restrooms? One for both him & her.....

I think it's all Bruce Jenner's fault.

There are restrooms for men, women and families. I guess the families would be either him or her, wouldn't you?

Yeah, it's funny. haha Until it's you or a loved one. Then I guess they just don't exist for you anymore? Real easy until it affects you in a real personal way.

For the record, I've NEVER had ''***** envy''. But, I agree with both your posts and I've always wondered if God is a misogynist and hates women, he sure gave us a lot physical pain to deal with, periods every month and childbirth and menopause and the chemical chaos that goes with them.

I pretty much agree with Uptosnuff. (Can we call you Snuffy? ;)) Although I am generally liberal about most things, my liberal understanding hits a brick wall on this subject.

Not only do women have a totally different experience with their bodies than men do, we are hard-wired to be different emotionally also. Our gender is mandated by every cell in our bodies. That second X
chromosome just won't go away, no matter how we wish for it!

I think a man who feels like a woman trapped in a man's body is suffering from an unfortunate psychological affliction. He is not actually a woman, no matter how much he may wish for it.

MAD MAD WORLD WE LIVE IN NOW --- gender not interested to be honest means little to me 'but i do agree with you -it does make u stare like a confused stare lol'
sometimes i think hey hold on here bud or budette-you trying to get some message across to me and others who dont have a monkeys clue wots beneath the surface …
so just smile and walk away like me !!

Excellent post, Sunny.

I will add that I get really tired of the Political Correctness Police jumping on those of us who dare to feel that some things are simply unnatural (and dare I say, disgusting.) Seems that everyone has "rights" today except people like me who may not agree with the insanity.

Really? People who have empathy for others who are different is only because of Political Correctness? That's the only way you think people can think about others? Well, you're obviously not alone.

Why is it that you "empathetic" people can only empathize with people who agree with you? Why not just accept that people have different opinions without trying to make a fight of it? So freakin' TIRESOME.

If you read what you wrote that I responded to, it's you that made a fight out of opinions that don't jibe with yours. You think everyone that's not just like you is "disgusting." Your word. You don't think that was fighting words come out of you? You need to learn to take what you give out.

Sure, anyone can call me Snuffy:). Sounds kinda cute and easy to say.

Exactly about the xx chromosome.

A few days ago or maybe last week I saw a picture of a woman who was in the process of becoming a man and then found out she was pregnant. So there was this "woman" with a swollen pregnant belly and sporting a beard and smiling to the camera. She didn't even have the decency to shave off her beard. You can't get any freakier than that. Here's the link to the story.

Actually, I believe that gender "reassignment" is disgusting. Reading comprehension, for the win. Got anything else?

Wasn't it Woody Allen who, upon being asked if he thought sex was disgusting, replied "Only if it's done right"?? I dunno.

Please reread the highlights above. I never said everyone not like me is disgusting; I said some THINGS are disgusting. But by all means, have it your way. And rest assured, I have no problem defending my words and I'm not about to let you twist them.

Now you can have the all-important last word since I'm sure the other posters are tired of this exchange.

Thank you for the letting me have the last word (and I'm taking your word for it that is). Yes, and the some THINGS that are disgusting to you is what you consider are unnatural which are women without penises's and men without uterus's. I think we already got that from you. We get it! Happy now? Oh, and not to mention, you can read minds. How great is that?

I am surprised at the attitudes toward different genders with so many other things wrong in the world.

I couldn't care less about what gender someone wants to be, how someone dresses, or if they have a five o'clock shadow or not. I do however think big breasted men should be required to wear bras and keep their upper body covered at all times. Lol. It would be terrible funny to take my heavy weight husband bra shopping.

Since I have had a total hysterectomy in my twenties I have a bit of a mustache and a 24/7 light colored hairy face due to lack of female hormones. I guess you could call it a beard. What will I do if it darkens? Bleach it? Shave it? Let it grow long, braid it, and color it purple? Hmm, I like the purple ideal.

As to bathroom usage, I wish I could use the men's, I promise not too look. How many times are women stuck in lines to use the ladies when the mens is empty. When I have to go, I really have to go. I am for universal bathrooms and universal acceptance. With the ADA, thankfully the disabled can take an aide in either bathroom.

I sometimes can't get up off a toliet. Husband has to take me in the ladies and haul me out. No big deal. Bothers no one.

I'm just not going to get all riled up about what other people want to do with their own bodies. As Adeena said above, we human beings have WAY bigger fish to fry than worrying about stuff like this. I'm a "live and let live" kind of gal, and if someone wants to try to turn themselves into a woman or vice versa, I don't see it as any of my business.
