This will be my last move…..where will your last move take you.

Looks very nice, Micka. Is that a community garden?

There is a brand new age in place facility here. They are just starting to offer apartments. I looked at their website yesterday and they have a calculator to help figure out “where you would fit in their community” financially. They didn’t have the broom closet listed so I didn’t fit. 😂

The one I visited and liked was older and a lot less fancy.

Yes, Myrtle, it’s a community garden…..there seams to be a lot of green space there and walking space…..hope to spend a lot of time outside like I do here…..wether it be enjoying the sun, reading, IPad stuff outside, meeting people.

You know what…..places for living can be very expensive…..although I loved the age in place…..down in my heart, I felt I am too young for that type of facility……too young to be WITHOUT a STOVE……

Places don’t have to be new and fancy to make a person happy.

I hope you in your journey, find what will make you happy and comfortable. 🌻.

It's nice to have a garden like that. I hope you will enjoy many hours there. It's important to get out in the sun.

The older place I liked did have a full-size electric stove in the kitchen and a covered balcony as well as a large outside group patio. Since people stay in their original apartment if they progress from independent to assisted living, I asked if they remove the stove if a person might forget to turn it off. She said they just unplug it when that becomes an issue. I assume they take the cord.

Charry, that's so nice that you can go back home. :)

I have been following this thread too. Micka, have you sold your home yet, I ask because you mentioned that you had a bit of worry there.
Thanks for following, Lee.
The “ For Sale “ sign goes up April 3…..my concerns were to do with timing…..if it was feasible to get a 60 day possession date rather than 30 day possession date…..no problem…..have possession of my apartment June 1.
Another timing thing is…..my money for the house is received on possession day…..want to bank the cheque without having to stay an extra day after the movers are loaded.
I will find out on April 3.

Nice place MickaC
That’s a great price for such a nice place
A one bedroom suite with walkout deck or balcony is perfect. It’s even got a pool and community garden.

You must be getting excited to be moving soon. It’s nice that they allow pets too

Thank you, PeppermintPatty.
I am getting excited…..but getting a lot of stress…..wish I could close my eyes…..and open them, and be there and be over all this in between stuff.

In a while it could very well feel like that cause you’ll be gliding through this and before you know it you’ll have a beautiful new home with new friends and all kinds of things to do. I’m excited for you. 😁

Micka, I have not been a realtor for many years so not able to give advice on that end, do not want to give wrong advice.

But one thing I do know from experience is that once all the details are done on the sale of your property they will register on the closing dare and that is usually late in the afternoon, and then the money from the sale deposited.

A possession date can always be changed after the realtor draws up the sale IF both parties agree. You move into your apartment on June 1, is that subject to change should your house not sell right away?

I start paying for my apartment June 1st.
I put a down payment deposit....if something unforeseen happens with the sale of the house…..I would lose my deposit.
Thanks for your input, Lee.

Micka, hopefully the sale of your house will go easy. What would happen if you did lose your deposit? Would you still be on the list for another apartment? Is there a wait list? OMG I am hoping for a good outcome.

Micka, there are services that can help with packing and moving. Your realtor should know about those. The thing I find most stressful about selling a house is showing it. Once we were able to move before the house went on the market. That way we didn't have to worry about what to do with pets when it was being shown, having to find somewhere to go when it was being shown or keeping it neat.

Instead I stressed about it not selling soon and having to pay for two houses but that didn't happen. The realtor had full access to show it whenever someone wanted to see it and it sold within a few days. I hope yours will sell quickly too.

Micka, congrats on your new home. I know you must be anxious to get there and settle in. I’m in somewhat of a flux about my future plans. I cannot decide if I want to invest in some upgrades to my house and stay, sell the house and buy a place in a local 55+ community or sell it all and relocate to be nearer family which would require moving to another state. I am tiring of maintaining a house so the 55+ community sounds nice. I do have long term care insurance that will pay for care in my home or an assisted living situation or skilled nursing home. Of course there are limitations no matter what I choose.

The way houses are selling here…..I’m confident for the sale…..and the realtor is down to earth and very trustworthy…..in fact….she was the realtor when I bought this house.
If something goes wrong with the house…..and can’t move in to my apartment as planned…..I lose the down payment of $250.00…..standard down payment is half of $1528.00 rent…..but…..since I’m a senior, only have to pay $250.00…..HAPPY….HAPPY being a senior, comes in handy…..right.😉😊😀😃😁😆

Have a choice of paying the rent to hold the apartment….or…..going on the waiting list.

Have my fingers crossed BIG TIME.

I am excited.
I hope for the best for you, with your future plans for yourself, no matter what decision you make….be it for you and what you’ll be happy with. 🌷🌷🌷.

Thanks for your suggestion, Myrtle.
I have a moving company set, from the place I’m moving to….and with all my requirements…..a rep was out before Christmas to check everything out…..gave me a price quote and suggestions to help reduce cost.
I will be having them pack my glassed pictures, glass shelves from my curio cabinet, and my Mac desktop, and 2 TV’s…..that way they’re insured for breakage…..I don’t feel good about packing those myself.
Nothing will be downstairs, everything will be brought upstairs…..save money there….there isn’t a lot down there anyway.
I hope to get help with that when the time comes.
I will pack the kitchen stuff, there isn’t much of that…..I have several under furniture storage that I will use, as well as baskets, totes that I will fill…..clothes, I will pack, because the wardrobe mover thing is too expensive…..they will bring some cartons in case they’re needed.
I could go on and on…..but I’ll save some for another time.

The plan is to load in the morning……book the elevator…..unload in the evening.

The showing of the house will be hard…..for the fact I have to take my guys with me…..but….we’ll get through it.

Gotcha, @MickaC. Yes, other than tropical fish, pets are a no-no during open houses. On the other hand, open houses are conducted to benefit realtors (finds them new clients), not sellers. I got that straight from the realtor who sold my mother's home.

He also said realtors can't keep an eye on everyone who wanders through during an open house so theft is a problem.

My language partner and I were talking about my (possible) travel plans. He seems to think I should move out of my apartment while I'm away (3 months), and then come back and move into a different place. To save money on rent.

I don't think he really understands how complicated that would be! Not just moving my belongings in and out, but also changing my address with the bank, driver's license, etc., and canceling/reinstating various things.
