To those that deal with Arthritis - what are your symptoms?

I may be dealing with it. My body stay tensed up all the time. Mornings are the worst. When I stand up and walk, I feel pain in my right leg...I think it starts in my lower back (went to a Chiropractor - he mentioned Sciatica). When I am sitting, I am fine. Also, when I am relaxed at night (as much as I can be) it's not as bad. I feel it more in the morning - my body is all stiff and tight when I get up in the morning. Showering helps a bit. Can anyone relate? Aging, you gotta love it.

I agree with Nathan. Both yoga and taichi are great for aches and stiffness no matter what's causing it.

Arthritis grows mostly around your joints, including your spine, and it gets inflamed. That's when it's most painful. Cold temperatures and exertion can cause it to flare up. But there are other causes of the pain you described, so it's hard to say. If aspirin or ibuprophen or an analgesic cream help ease the pain, it's likely arthritis. But that won't tell you if it's osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. You need to see a doctor.

I have osteoarthritis, and NSAIDs would help with pain, but I am unwilling to increase my risk of heart attack and stroke. Plus, NSAIDs really increases my skin wounding greatly, which makes me completely cra cra(crazy).
I have the same thing in my back and hips Nathan. I have found nothing that helps except movement. I hope you are not taking nsaids if you are on a blood thinner. Even tried some serious drugs which did nothing except make me constipated. I do my best living with it.

I have Osteoarthritis around the joints in my fingers...actually nothing seems to help the pain once it starts, but to prevent it becoming sore in winter or when the next joint is inflaming ..and it's agony , I wear fingerless compression gloves...even indoors...

I'll just say, I agree with / relate too, all of the above.

Does anyone else notice an attachment to the weather ? During incoming weather, low barometric pressure ..... man the pain sets in. Sometimes I can barely move.

Today it is clear & sunny ........ pressure is near 30 HG ......... Much easier on the old body.

Definitely a connection with the weather.. here when it's due to rain or whenever it's very cold, my fingers hurts badly...

Thank you Murrmurr - great info. At night a glass of wine or small shot of Dewarts with mostly water and lemon helps. I stretch everyday...sometimes I think I over do it because I feel I am still in my 30's.. but my body reminds me at times I am 61 - however still young at heart and still well.... never mind :ROFLMAO:

I notice that as well. Seems like when they call for rain, the pressure in my head is a bit worst..but nothing I cannot handle. I do not want to be on a lot of meds so I just deal with it. I have more good days than not.

Same here, I try to deal with it without meds. I noticed when my body is a bit relaxed .. it makes a BIG difference. I feel like my body is stuck in a tensed mode.. which is from years of Anxiety - Anxiety is much better now but my body has not caught up yet. :ROFLMAO:

I greatly dislike having arthritis. Wake up with pain especially in my upper back which appears to lessen as the day progresses. Warm shower really helps. Wish I had a tub in my apartment so that I could take Epsom salt baths.

Old age can be such a bᵢᵢᵢᵢᵢᵢtch
Showers help a bit but I need to take Epsom salt baths. I may take one tonight... it does help me to relax. Listening to music and taking a bath.. that does relax me a bit:giggle:

You might benefit from meditation. I do about an hour of meditation a few times a week. I've learned to go deep enough to get through dental work and 2 lumbar procedures called RFA with no pain. In fact, a nurse who assisted with the second RFA kept checking to make sure I wasn't dead.

I meditate every morning.. that is MY special time. I LOVE IT!!!!! It helps more than I realize. I wish I could find a Meditation group in my area. Maybe I can start one since mask are being lifted.. hmmmm:unsure::LOL:

Try gentle movement, yoga or Taichi. Note: before you think "I can't do yoga" there are literally a million different ways to do yoga.

Here is a "chair yoga" practitioner, has a nice repertoire of moves:

Was not able to bring up the Youtube video but will look it up on my Kindle Fire,

I have very painful osteo in my wrists/hands. Was unbearable in my right wrist, got a cortisone shot in it a couple of weeks ago. Made it pretty much normal, but for how long? -- who knows.

I'm on meloxicam daily and tylenol as needed -- which I didn't need since the shot, until today.
Such a bummer that stuff wears off. I've had those injections and they work great, but I was told the cortisone can cause bone weakness. Last thing you need when you have arthritis.

I asked my doc about that last week. My dad had cortisone shots in his knees way back when, and I've known numerous people since then who've also had them. But they all said they only can do it 3-4 times. I assumed they just lost their effectiveness, but my doc said that too much of it can actually degrade the joint -- similar to what you were told.

But my neighbor, who blew his knee out skiing, told me his doc gave him a total of 8 shots.
