I can't get past the paywall of NYTimes. I'm shocked, saddened and disgusted by this, if it's true. Can you give a larger synopsis? Thanks.

Same here.

The news is so protected, [and IMO censored] in all this . I'm not sure Ukraine is all that innocent in the whole scenario of it. Perhaps I'm wrong but, I think much scrutiny is called for .

If this execution proves to be accurate, it is terrible. I can understand it though. So many Ukrainians have been s. assaulted, including children, also tortured, and

killed in horribly barbaric ways. How would I feel under such circumstances? Would I be able to remain civilised, or react with rage, and a need to exact vengeance? I just don’t know.

A professionally trained soldier or actual professional soldier should be able to have the discipline to avoid that.

Problem is in the beginning of the war especially it's like the Ukranians were willing to use anyone willing to fight. It's the recruits given minimal training and weapons are the ones that are most likely to lose it even though understandable. Russia is having similar issues with their draftees. Discipline is key in military operations. Discipline is needed not just to control temper but the opposite as well ie control fear & panic and the urge to quit.

It's getting messy now because it's not just about taking out tanks, vehicles etc because the enemy must be rooted out which is a slower process.

Perhaps Putin should stop sending soldiers into Ukraine to murder innocent civilians. Russia has no right to complain, even if it was a war crime. That's the equivalent of Colorado Springs shooter complaining about how he's been treated since he murdered five people and wounded dozens of others.

I don't want to click on the link but I agree with @Alligatorob Terrible things do happen with war. I have wondered why we war. I think it's one of the reasons I'm not vengeful. I can get very mad, but I don't get even.

Problem with tit for tat with individuals in war is they wind up being no better.than vigilante gang members rather than soldiers accomplishing a specific mission. The enemy/Russia could use this for motivation/propaganda.

In war terrible things do happen. Our government asks us soldiers to kill for whatever it is we are fighting for. I probably killed hundreds, just like others in Vietnam, WWII and all the other wars we fought. During Desert Storm, Iraqi soldiers were trying to surrender to journalists. When that story first came out, I thought it to be b.s., but later it was proved to be correct.

The obvious difference in Iraq was: the U.S. invaded Iraq. The U.S. military committed numerous atrocities against the Iraqis.

Russia invaded Ukraine with the goal of conquering and annexing the country. The Russian military has murdered thousands of innocent Ukrainians and caused billions of dollars in damage.

On second thought, Russia's invasion of Ukraine is comparable to the U.S. invasion of Iraq. Ukraine and Iraq are radically different, but the invasions have similar justifications. In both cases, the invaders lied about the rationale for invading and in both cases, it became a total disaster.

What I do know is that Putin lies constantly, so who and what do we believe?
