Unexpected attack from an expected enemy

Did you know that the US and UK have sent billions of dollars in aid to Gaza? And that's just in the past few years. Because Gaza Palestinians have permanent refugee status, the only people in the world who do, the US and a few of its allies send money and aid to Gaza every year.

Within a year after the US and UK sent hundreds of miles of underground pipes, along with US and UK volunteers who supervised and assisted installing them so that Palestinian homes could have access to clean running water in their homes, dozens of Hamas members dug those pipes up to make thousands of missiles ...to use against Israel.

Did the US go blow up stuff in Gaza? No. Because, people.

Did Hamas go blow up stuff in Israel? Yes, multiple times, people be damned.

Ok, Israel has finally responded. The Oct 7th attack was a step too far. It has been a very significant response. The US hasn't funded it, BTW, nor has our government condoned it. The US has strongly urged negotiations. In fact, over half of the Israeli people are not at all happy with their president's decisions over the past few months.

Everyone wants the hostages in Gaza returned alive. Too late to say "alive and well". No one's even sure we can say "alive".
Regarding the specific incidents you mentioned, it's important to note that the situation in Gaza is multifaceted and involves various political, social, and security dynamics. Acts of violence and destruction by any party are deeply regrettable and contribute to the cycle of conflict and suffering in the region.

Efforts by the international community, including the United States, to promote negotiations and a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are ongoing. The ultimate goal is to achieve a just and lasting peace that respects the rights and aspirations of all parties involved.

The parents of Kennedy Sanders were on Fox News this AM.
Heartbreaking, and outrgeous, ..... three young soldiers who should not be dead! And dozens injured!

Parents of soldier killed in Jordan reflect on their daughter's life: 'I just miss her' | Fox News Video

We need to give the enemy a 'Soleimani' type of response.
It's cold comfort, but Ms. Sanders' parents were indeed grateful because they said that is what she was working toward.

The U.S. Army Reserve announces the posthumous promotion of Spc. Kennedy L. Sanders and Spc. Breonna Moffett to the rank of Sergeant in recognition of their exceptional courage, dedication, and leadership during Operation Inherent Resolve. They tragically lost their lives on Jan. 28, 2024, in Jordan.

My heart goes out to the families of the young women and their commander who lost their lives in the line of duty. Such a sad day for Americans. Watching the grief of their mothers (more so) and their fathers...hearing their words was heartbreaking. I know this is a delicate situation that the U.S. is "tip-toeing" around. I'm waiting to see just what actions will be taken.

I would argue only 1 point; I don't believe the situation in Gaza is multifaceted. Hamas has one goal and that is to eliminate Israel and/or every Jew in the ME. That's the whole enchilada.

an aside: "just and lasting peace that respects the rights and aspirations of all" is, almost verbatim, a line from the Israeli Constitution.

The constitution of Palestine, on the other hand, repeatedly promulgates its nation's unshakable intolerance for non-Arabs, non-Muslims, and particularly Jews.

I read this morning that the drone wasn't detected because the base was expecting the return of one of their own drones and had temporarily shut down their radar system to ensure it wasn't fired upon.

So the US military firmly believes it was a planned attack - someone sent that drone into the base's airspace knowing that the radar system would be shut down at that particular time.

Yes, I'm aware of those things because they were included in the very first news reports I saw. The Sec of Defense Austin says they are sure Iran is behind it but the planned strategy is not to attack Iran directly but strike those Iran supplies with weapons. I'm thinking the problem will just continue then.

"Pretty sophisticated for a bunch of half-arsed mountain boys." (paraphrasing Schwarzenegger/Predator)
