US expat in South America

100+ Greetings From South Carolina Stock Photos, Pictures & Royalty ...

Welcome!

Please share the advantages and disadvantages of being an expat.

Was this a retirement move?
Yes, it was a retirement move. One obvious disadvantage, particularly now that I’m widowed, is the absence of family. I have a few family members here, but I don’t see them very often. One huge advantage is the slower pace of life, excellent and affordable healthcare, and nice weather.

Welcome! You will find a lot of great people in this forum. If you don't mind, let us know which country you live in. I've been to Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. All are beautiful in their own way. I'm partial to Buenos Aires.

I am in Chile. But I agree with you: Buenos Aires is probably one of my favorites cities in the world!
I literally spent one night in Santiago. I flew in for a conference, attended a dinner and flew home the next day. There was a hurricane headed to South Florida so those of us who lived there had to fly back home to prepare. I was robbed! I would have loved to have seen more of Chile. Anyway, welcome again!

well of course you have many options in south America if you speak Spanish. But if you don't speak Spanish...
