US skier Lindsey Vonn airlifted off mountain after practice run in Italy

Oh, that's bad. Hope it gets better soon but you're right......she'll probably be out for the duration. What a pity.
Maybe airlifting is the only way off the mountain in a hurry but even then it shows she needs more attention than a medic or aid station can provide.

She's had injuries in the past. Hopefully this one doesn't kill her career or ability to walk normal

Yeah that's bad news, it was going well for her up until now. It was a nasty off camber jump into a left footed turn in flat light.

Probably the most annoying commentator w the most annoying voice ever!

Read an article today that quoted her as not in pain, not swollen, and with the help of a knee brace, she plans to continue. She was said to have completely ruptured her ACL last Friday. She even skied today after 3 days of physical therapy and doctors’ advice. Article didn't say how that outing went though. She did say as long as there is a chance, she will continue. Next up are the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics 6-22 Feb.

If she doesn't feel it now, I think she will by the time she's our age. Hope all goes well for her.

That's a painful injury. I've learned to realize when something's going on with them usually extreme tightess or soreness from over or miss use. Her injury happened instantly which means probably not a minor or clean injury.

She'll definitely feel it later on even if it's from the surgery she'll eventually need.

This one shows how she got in trouble better than the one I viewed. It looks like she got sideways in the air.
It looks like she couldn't control the torque. The cause many not have been the knee but upper body/hips?

Any of these athletes/events where they go airborne it takes a lot of strength to control one's self mid air.

Now reports Vonn has been moved into intensive care. Hopefully it's just a precaution
"Yes, Lindsey Vonn is in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso, Italy, following surgery to stabilize a fracture in her left leg.

Multiple sources, including Reuters and CBC, confirm she is being monitored in the ICU. However, hospital officials and sources stress that there is no threat to her life. Her placement in the ICU is partly intended to provide greater privacy due to her status as a high-profile athlete, in addition to medical observation.

She remains in stable condition under the care of a multidisciplinary team of American and Italian physicians. "

I thought she got sideways in the air:

Linsey Vonn:
“I was simply 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm hooked inside of the gate, twisting me and resulted in my crash,” the 41-year-old continued. “My ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with my crash whatsoever.”

She says that but since it brings up 'inches' maybe just favoring or thinking about it just a little bit up hill turned into those inches down hill at the point of the crash.

Or the brace could've been a little too tight or too loose which turned into those inches over time. Yes she was only 5 inches away from avoiding that gate but every little thing counts in a game of inches.

Hopefully she can walk maybe run after these surgeries and rehab.

Her spirit and passion for the sport still needs to be admired.

Too a speedy and full recovery.

I thought about that too. Just favoring a new weakness in the body can cause overreactions that interfere with all the nuances involved in downhill racing. It's not just about speed and guts. There is a lot of precision involved at those high speeds, and a lot of things can throw that off. For now I'll just accept Linsey's interpretation at face value. I'm sure she can work this out on her own.
