Vegetarians?

Many persons throughout history have been Vegetarians.

Da Vinci
Tolstoy
Ghandi
Hitler
Shaw
Einstein (Only during the last years of his life)
My Daughter

Sorry, but I'm still a Cannibal.

How many of you are Vegetarians or Vegans?

Harold

I eat chicken, fish and dairy. I was an ovo lacto vegetarian for years. It's a healthy diet and no animals have to die. Good for those who can maintain over a lifetime. Their health will thank them for it.

I just looked that up, I could maybe do that. I love milk on my morning oatmeal, and all the non dairy milks are not for me.

I eat more meatless meals, seafood and more meat with two feet but I still enjoy a nice piece of pork or beef.

For me it's all about the price vs the WOW.

I don't get much enjoyment out of $5.00/pound ground beef but I do really enjoy a nice steak or roast every now and then.

This is why I'm not a vegetarian.

Like Bea, we enjoy more meatless meals than we used to, but a lot of times we have seafood (shrimp, crab legs, salmon) along with beef, chicken, lamb, pork. Have no desire to go completely vegetarian or vegan.

I'm a minimalist meat eater.

When we go to Steer & Stein, our favorite steak house, I never order a steak, only a seafood dish. Sometimes I'll order one of their big $8 hamburgers, however. My wife always has a Tri-tip.

My Daughter in Chicago is a Vegetarian, and so is her Husband and my 3 Grandchildren.

I wish they weren't, though.....

We are not vegetarian, but close to it. It is common for us to have only a pound of meat, for two of us, in an entire week. And we don't do red meat --- just looking at a barely cooked steak or roast is disgusting. We've cooked, for decades, as is traditional for many cultures, to not have a singular piece of meat, by itself, in a meal. Rather, it's cut up and put in some kind of stew, casserole, stir-fry, etc. which is primarily made up of veggies.
But we're health nuts, so our opinion doesn't count. :D

It does so count. Congrats on your healthier food choices. It's not always easy, but better for our health overall. And stir fried meals are awesome. You get a lot of veggies with a little fatty meats etc. Good choice.

Re the “cannibal” question (and your answer) , Hal; please re-read your opening statement. Maybe you meant to write “carnivore” and not cannibal .......I hope !

Anyway, I do still eat meat, but much less than I used to eat, and most of it is either chicken or seafood now. Beef prices have gone up so much that even hamburger is mostly out of my food budget, and I don’t really like eating pork.
Actually, if I had to kill it and dress it, I think that I would not eat meat at all, and would become a vegetarian.
I do not like that most of the meat we buy at the stores has been loaded with growth hormones, antibiotics, and other things that have no business being part of their diet, and which then become part of my diet.
It also bothers me that the animals we slaughter are also some of the smartest animals. Chickens are highly intelligent, although not at the same level as a parrot, and pigs are said to be as smart as a dog.

I thnk that I am working closer and closer to becoming a vegetarian.
I know that the milk and eggs also have added chemicals and hormones; but at least no animal was slaughtered for me to have butter on my sweet potato, or cream in my coffee.
I have tried both almond milk and several of the other non-dairy milks, and all of the ones in the store just taste like water to me. If I make my own almond milk fresh in the Vitamix, then it is much better tasting, creamy and rich; but still not the same in my morning coffee.

One of my kids is, the other.........don't have any explanation for her......Pain in the pattotie to serve 'em dinner.
