Volodymyr Zelenskyy's address to congress is one of the most moving, inspiring speeches I have ever heard. This man and the Ukrainian people are an example to all of us. The fight for democracy in the Ukraine is a fight for everyone who holds freedom and democracy dear.
Democracy in one country benefits the entire world.
This speech should be broadcast in every school, workplace and public setting so everyone can hear it. He will go down as one of the greatest leaders the world has ever known.
This is the kind of leader the United States and every country should have.

He came to beg for more U.S. taxpayer’s money. How does giving him billions of U.S. taxpayer’s money benefit the American people? This country has zero interests in Ukraine. Why do you suppose he came to the U.S. and not another country? Could we be his piggy bank?

U.S. taxpayer’s money is supposed to be used for the betterment of it’s citizens. Of course, as has been the norm, we will give him more billions of dollars and more high end weaponry like drones that have the ability to fire missiles.

What does the U.S. and its citizens get back in return for the billions of taxpayer’s money in return?

We get back in helping to stop an invasive bully. You'd rather the money be spent here. Well, it wouldn't be spent here. Why go to the moon, we need the money here.....well, it wouldn't be spent here.

May as well spend it on Ukraine and it's fight to remain free, because it wouldn't be spent here. You know that.

Putin said from the beginning he wants to restore the holdings of the Soviet Union.......people who have gotten used to being free. You don't want that. Russia must be restrained AND
That money would not be spent here. It won't and never will.

Canada stands with The Lions of Ukraine. We will not hide our eyes from the rpe and torture of women and children, the attempted genocide of a people. Also, Putin would not stop with Ukraine, but, piece by piece, seek to absorb those parts of the world he considers to be

part of the Russian Empire. I have vets who are currently fighting in Ukraine, some have returned home. Ohhh, the atrocities they have seen. We have a choice, stand up for

democracy, speak out against war crimes, or turn away, and be complicit in our silence. What kind of a world do we want to live in? I live in an area that will be completely

destroyed in the event of a nuclear attack, better the risk of annihilation than to live a life I consider to be morally bankrupt, and spiritually indefensible.

I’ve got mixed emotions. I’m on the side of Ukraine for sure, and Zelinsky is a great leader. But we’re spending our tax dollars to defend another country’s borders while ignoring whats happening on our own. That’s not ok.
We are NOT ignoring what is happening on our borders. We have sent troops there, set up barbed wire fences, and Congress is working on this issue every single day. It will be resolved; by the way, this dilemma has been going on for years now. Have you worried about who is paying for the bill for this? How about the money to build a wall? That was your tax dollars, and how far did those dollars go?

If we turn our backs on the Ukraine, before we can blink, Russia will be at our borders. Then, I bet you won't wonder your tax dollars are going. You'll have other issues to confront.

Why go to the moon, we need the money here.....well, it wouldn't be spent here.
Not sure what you're getting at here but please don’t suggest that NASA's budget is a waste. It’s budget is a fraction of the US economy while returning invaluable technology and knowledge that we all benefit from.

So well said, @Shalimar! I totally agree and will be sharing these same views with anyone I speak with about this in my own community.

Calm down. I didn’t mean to upset anyone. Let me answer your question, “Why go to the moon?” We have made enormous gains in the technology and medical fields through our space program. We have gained a terrific amount of knowledge that has benefitted all mankind. We may not even have GPS without space research. NASA has shown us how to use robots in medical procedures, making some surgeries less invasive and less recovery time. Enormous strides have come from the lunar and outer space launches.

As for Russia, we are not at war with them and they are not an enemy (militarily speaking) of ours at this time. Our taxpayer’s money would be better spent here at home on the elderly, education and lowering healthcare costs for our working class. Every senior, regardless of whether they have original Medicare or an advantage plan should have dental and eye care protection. Students wishing to go to college and cannot afford it, should receive at least partial help. People that have to use Obamacare for insurance should be paying less for their premiums. I have read that thousands still can’t afford the premiums.

There are other better ways to spend taxpayer’s money than helping a country fight a war. I have read a countless number of posts on this forum about the U.S. staying out of wars and us spending so much money on wars, yet we have no problem giving money to other countries to fight wars. Is this not being hypocritical? We have to look at the big picture. Most everyone would like to see Russia fall, but at what cost? I think we have given our fair share. Let other countries catch up to our contributions. There is a reason why Zelensky continues to knock on our door for more and more money and yet, none of it has been accounted for. Wouldn’t you like to see where or how your money is being spent, or do you believe in just handing out blank checks with no accountability?

I would much more prefer and maybe could be more supportive if he would continue his attempts at sitting down at a table and trying to negotiate a cease fire and a compromise with Russia. Are you aware that Zelensky gas shut down newspapers and TV stations because he has accused them of spreading Russian propaganda? Whether they have or not, I don’t know. He has only accused them of doing this. He has also disbanded any political party that does not fall in line with is agenda.

Bottom line here is that only the companies that manufacture arms and ammunition are the winners in this war, so far.

That's one of my points. The money would not be spent here for what you mentioned. It won't be done, you know why it won't be done. I can't mention why it won't be done, that would be political. I mentioned the moon as a cost people complain about. I am all gung ho on space.

I totally agree and we must help them while Russian forces are weakened!!!

At our southern border, supposedly many women and children have also been killed, raped and/or sold, not to mention the drugs that have come into our country by the cartels and have killed 10’s of thousands of our younger people. How many families do you think have been harmed or in some way affected because of this? Many bodies from drownings, torture and murders of women and children have been recovered, yet we hear very little of these atrocities. The world is a very chaotic place at this time. We can’t solve all the world’s problems, so we have to pick and choose who gets our taxpayer’s money. When people look at the money that the U.S. hands out their impression is that it’s coming from the government. That’s completely false. The money is coming from our taxpayers who have worked for that money. Right now because we are broke every dollar we are spending or handing out is borrowed. Is that OK?

Contrary to popular belief, not every American is rich. Please stop and look at the big picture. The U.S. needs help also. We are about to start receiving up to 25,000 illegal immigrants a day starting very soon. Who will help us pay those bills? The simple answer is, no one. We are on our own as usual.

We are to help those in need, I believe. Pray for those also. I go by a phrase, "you get back what you dish out", so be careful. Be diligent and on purpose to destroy evil!!!

One last comment and then I will shut up on this matter. The war between Russia and Ukraine is an un-winnable war as it is being fought now. Why Russia doesn’t end this war, I do not know, but it’s probably for geo-political reasons. China may even have had a hand in this.
Unless Russia uses the resources at their disposal, this war will be another 20 year fiasco that keeps draining the U.S. Treasury.

Merry Christmas, everyone. May you all have a Blessed 2023.

Russia's resources are nuclear. That's their only "winnable" solution.

It will not end soon, but with our help, and their demise, it will be over. We have done this before and it will be done again. After all, we have a force with us that is unbeatable!

I said I had mixed emotions. But you are dead wrong about our border. They stopped building the wall in 2020. Our border is not secure, not even close. I see it every day. Live, in the grocery store. No need to get snarky.

No, I agree, our border is not secure. They keep waning this way and that on how to manage it.

Just a suggestion, not a good idea to tell a woman to “calm down.” It perpetuates a stereotype where men expressing strong opinions are viewed as decisive, but women are seen as aggressive or unstable.😊
