Voting by mail could save lives.....

After weeks of listening to both sides, I am doubtful if we will know the winner of the Presidential race on 11/3. I hope that I am wrong.

Same here. If just half the hype and rumours are true, this years election may be a real mess.

We will be getting a drop box right here in my community, which will be a big help to the people who don't drive, or walk with difficulty. It will be there for about a week in October.

The ballots in this state are sent only to those who request them, which I have done. The ballot has not arrived yet, but I'm pretty sure that it will.

So you don't have any absentee voting at all -- like for military stationed elsewhere, or people who are to frail or ill to go out to vote?
If you live outside Canada you can apply for a special ballot for a mail in vote as long as you are a registered voter.

What I wonder about is if I would do a mail-in ballot and then vote at the pole would both votes be counted? I know that there is supposed to be cross checking, but suppose the person cross checking overlooks a double vote to help their party? I am not a conspiracist, but being a cop makes me somewhat suspicious when cheating can happen.

Arguably, the same could be done in person at a polling place. Here, we used to have to vote at our own precinct, but now we can vote any any polling place in our district. At the polling places they have instantly updated electronic crosssheets of who has voted and who has not.

We haven't advanced that far yet. We still have to vote at a specified polling place. It's convenient, but it's best to go between 10: a.m. and 2 p.m., otherwise, it is busy and the lines are long.

Yesterday I received my FOURTH application in the mail to request an absentee ballot... I received them from both political parties, a women's voters organization, and secretary-of-state. I can't recall which one, but one had 'or current resident' printed after my name.
Completed and mailed one, tossed the others out.

Same here Janice but both were from the republican party....

Just today Georgia reported 1000 cases of double voting. Small percentage out of total votes cast, but it's going to happen.

The HUGE distinction here is: Mail in Voting: Mass ballots are sent out statewide, you don't ask for them. They use the info on file.. you may have moved, died, etc.and the ballots will still show up at that address. Now the people that actually live there, have MORE ballots they can send in. People can "collect" ballots (think apartment buildings, etc..) and fill them out how they want. There is no "proof" that you are the person who signed and sent in the ballot. Now, Absentee Ballots: You must REQUEST the ballot, You must provide proof you are allowed to vote (submit picture ID in my state) and that ballot is mailed to YOU. Some say, "but I don't know how to send a pic of my ID", ok Grandma, how did you upload pics to Facebook of the grand kids?" Absentee Ballots can also be abused, but not as easily as mass mail in voting. Go to the Polls to vote to make sure your voted gets counted! If you can go to Walmart in your masks, you can stand in line (6ft distance) to vote! And those that say, but what if people cant get to to the polls, then request an Absentee Ballot! You don't even pay postage or for the envelope!

This sounds more like political gamesmanship between the two parties than actual voter fraud.

According to Forbes:
A total of roughly 150,000 people who requested absentee ballots showed up at polling places on election day, often because they had not received their absentee ballots in the mail or decided to instead vote in person, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Approximately 1,000 voters returned absentee ballots and then also showed up to vote on election day, Raffensperger announced Tuesday.

Raffensperger also claimed, without evidence, that those 1,000 individuals intentionally cast two votes, fully aware that they had already submitted an absentee ballot.

"A double voter knows exactly what they're doing, diluting the votes of each and every voter that follows the law," Raffensperger declared. "Those that make the choice to game the system are breaking the law. And as secretary of state, I will not tolerate it."

According to the Associated Press, when Raffensperger was asked to present proof, he didn't provide any evidence of voter intent, other than mentioning one voter in Long County who he said bragged about voting twice.

Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director Scott Hogan said instances of fraud remain rare and that "it is clear that rather than do his job of promoting the safety and security of our voting process, the secretary of state is instead pushing the G.O.P.'s voting conspiracy theories and disinformation."

Interesting that the president's bloomers are on fire over mail-in voting THIS YEAR. I understand that the records show that he and some of his family have been using "mail in: voting for some time in previous elections? Something change in the voting laws this year?

There is a difference between absentee voting and mail-in ballots. But I don't know wha

The difference between absentee and mail in voting is that absentee voters have to request a ballot. With mail in voting, ballots are sent automatically to registered voters. In theory, at least, that increases the chance of a mix-up. Oregon has been doing vote by mail for a while without incident, so this may be a non-issue in real life.

I'd never heard of that.
What I was familiar with in a different location was absentee voting for individuals who could not get to the polls on election day, but in this location the option has been open to everybody.

IMO the expansion of voting by mail on paper ballots is a step backward.

If things stay about the same I will go to the polls and vote in person.

It's too late for this election but I think that some sort of online/telephone voting system should be developed in time for the next election.

The few people that don't at least have access to a telephone could still be allowed to vote at a polling place within their community or request a mail-in ballot.

Amen. It's very backward. This is where I don't understand the resistance to implementation of a voter ID. Get a card with a barcode like my driver's license has and scan it. One card, one vote. The system should've been in place years ago given where we are technologically.

I will go to my polling place to vote this year the same as always. There's just something about taking the time to physically go and vote that makes me feel very civic-minded. Voting is a privilege as well as a right. I don't think it's any kind of a hardship for me to vote in person. Wear a mask, socially distance yourself if you need to. Just the idea of catching a flu virus is not enough to keep me away from the polls.

This is not just a flu virus. This is horribly deadly. Not everyone follows the rules and social distances or wears a mask. We see the violators all over the news. Denial will not keep a person safe.

I agree, with this virus being as deadly as it is folks should not have to risk their lives to vote. Our absentee ballots are coming and we will be using them this year.
I know that feeling of going in person and casting your vote but not this time around.

I will vote in person. I want to be sure that my vote is counted. I am wary of the administration finding some way to say the mail in voting was fraudulent. Our city is talking about drive through voting. If not, a mask is my plan.

Not true in most states. In my state, this year they have sent out requests for a mail-in ballot to active voters (those who have a history of voting) and to voters who have registered since there was a general election. You have to fill out and sign the request, mail it back, and if the information and signature matches what they have on file, only then will they mail you a ballot.

I believe all states match up signatures on ballots themselves to those on file and keep track electronically of those who have already voted, the same as they do with in person voting. I know this state does. There is no more chance of double voting with mail in ballots than there is with in-person voting.
