We could be heading for extinction soon!

Scientists are warning that the rate of loss of vertebrates, fish, birds, amphibians and insects is accelerating at an alarming rate, and we are to blame. Our activities, such as land clearing, polluting the seas, carbon emissions, etc., could cause us to be wiped out, too, and just within a few generations. Will we change are our ways in time? I doubt it...
 

Hold on, what are you trying to say about our extinction?
 

Extinction has been a remarkably common phenomena throughout the history of life on earth. Mammals in particular are not nearly as adaptable as many simpler species and so are more vulnerable to variations in the environment. I have no doubt that homo sapiens will exit the planet long before many other forms of life and there is a high probability that we will in some way be responsible for our own extinction just as we have been the cause of the extinction of so many other species.
 
Without all us intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate people being around, it may be a lot more peaceful and safer place to be.
 
My contention that the human race is essentially unsustainable is based upon our refusal to come to grips with the following, in descending order of priority:

(1) The man-made alteration of our global climate which, unchecked, must eventually result in severe loss of arable living space, mass starvation, increased lawlessness, governmental and social collapse and weather extremes beyond that with which we can cope.

(2) Our rapidly depleting natural resources. Unless REAL conservation begins immediately, as we make an ERNEST search for alternative fuel sources, we are due to completely exhaust our global supply of coal, natural gas, oil and potable water before the end of this century.

(3) The disparity in the distribution of our economic benefits. The Big Corporations hold all the cards and they're slowly choking the life out of the rest of us. When the so-called 'middle classes' of the world complete their precipitous slide into oblique poverty, absolutely everything will come to a grinding stop, followed shortly by the aforementioned MASS reduction in population. With the sudden abundance of unprocessed dead, heretofore unprecedented disease will be next, wiping out billions more. From this point, the final eradication could actually take as little as a few WEEKS.

(4) Our ever-increasing penchant for violence. Whether it's a bunch of crazed Arabs, endlessly slaughtering each other over the minute differences in their ideologies, or the latest unsupervised mentally unstable child-man, murdering as many innocents as he can get, the violence can only increase exponentially when the other things I've mentioned above begin to happen. Sauce for the already thoroughly cooked goose.

(5) The abject failure of our educational system. We are mass producing functional illiterates ... ANGRY ones at that. The stupider we get, as a race, the more hopeless the chance that we can ever effectively address any of the coming cataclysms listed above. As if our inherent avarice and lust for power wasn't enough to finish us off.
 
I have always said that if Greenpeace were really serious about saving the planet they'd be funding research into a highly contagious, 100% fatal, totally incurable disease specific to Homo Sapiens!

I presume that you are referring to their willful ignorance, petty spitefulness and abject refusal to learn from their own mistakes?!

Yes, there have been several scientists saying, lately, that the earth is entering another period of mass extinction. I can't remember the exact numbers, but some of these reports are saying that the Earth is losing almost 300 species a year, in the past few decades....if I remember correctly. It is just a question of time before humans begin to become affected by whatever is causing this. Personally, I think the predicted Overpopulation, by the end of this century, is going to trigger something major. Then, too, there are things like the Long Overdue Next Eruption of Yellowstone, which could wipe out half this nations population. People go on their merry way, never giving much thought to the damage we are doing to the planet, and just how fragile our environment really is.
 
Toured Yellowstone a couple times. Really impressive what you see there. Sometimes the ground rises and sometimes it settles. If it ever decides to do its rumbling it will certainly make a mess for much of north and central US lands. I wonder if it will give enough warnings for folks close by to take warning. Just don't know for sure where they would run for a sure safety.
 
Most of the problem is caused by, over population
and Genetically Modified crops.
Genetically modified crops are killing off insects
and bees.

When, not if, Yellowstone blows again, those within range of the eruption would probably be the lucky ones...as they would go quickly. Much of the rest of the nation would suffer badly as the ash covered half the nation, and food production, etc., virtually ceased. A major eruption could cause a "Nuclear Winter" over much of the Northern Hemisphere for a year or two, and take decades to recover from.

In my opinion.

"Overpopulation" is the 800lb. Gorilla lurking in the corner, that is going to be the Bane of humanity in the Not Too Distant Future. Poverty and the inability to support themselves is already a major problem for over a billion people, and technology/automation is reducing the need for human endeavor more with every passing year. Humans are ignoring the laws of Supply and Demand, and when half the people are destitute, in the latter half of this century, all Hell is going to break loose.

GMO crops may be making Monsanto rich, but the long term effects on those who consume these products remains to be seen. These chemicals and altered crops entering our food chain might be helping sustain our burgeoning populations...but at what cost, in the future?

One thing is for sure....Humans are their own Worst Enemy.
