Weight Loss Accountability/Support Group Thread

When I'm counting calories like I am now I use My Fitness Pal and it almost always states a measurement, so I use a little scale and measuring cups.

For example, last night we had salmon, broccoli and baked sweet potatoes. I measured out a cup of broccoli and didn't worry about whether it was level or heaping, but I weighed the salmon to get 4 oz and weighed my 6.5 oz sweet potato. My son's and husband's were over 9 oz which just shows what a difference you can have. The thing I'm most careful about is fats. I used exactly 1 Tablespoon of butter with the whole meal.

I like the weighing and measuring part because it makes me feel in control, what gives me anxiety is something like trying to estimate the meals when we eat out.

A hula hoop sound like fun and a great waist exercise, Twostep!

I'd watch that shagging in the kitchen though. We have Brits on board who have a whole different definition for that. ;)

I usually don't eat anything between 8 PM and noon. I have two meds to take on an empty stomach and not together so the morning can drag on. A couple of meds need a full meal or risk burning a hole in my gut which has happened so I eat a lot of creamy foods.
In spite of this I have been losing weight. Who knows why? I hope it isn't cancer.
Its me again (Alizerine) with my new name.
It seems my weight loss might be due to intermittent fasting. One of the techniques is not to eat for 16 hours. I often did that without realizing that it was a thing.

I am on this journey again after spending several months struggling with anxiety and living a mostly sedentary existence. Also, I'm on meds that make weight loss - well, can cause weight gain and so make weight loss harder BUT not unachievable. And I am determined, man. I will be comfortable in my body again.

I'm feeling good about it, the weight loss journey. I've done this before and feel confident I can do it again.

Today the scale is down 1/10 of a pound, which is okay because it was up 2/10 yesterday. This happens when weighing everyday and I just need to watch the overall trends. Which is fairly easy with my scale's phone app; it records everything: weight, water, muscle mass, bone density, etc.

So, you know, Go Us! :)

I am determined, man. I will be comfortable in my body again.

Best of luck and I empathize with your goal. When I retired I dropped 50 pounds over the course of just over two years. My mantra was "I want to feel light on my feet again" but "I want to be comfortable in my body again" works just as well. I just noticed I'd drifted up ten pound about a week ago. So I'm aiming to go lower again.

My guidelines for success are to do no recreational eating and to make a point to feel hunger before a meal regularly. If that doesn't get it done then I'll start counting every calorie and I hate that so much that I will be very strict and lose two pounds a week. But first I'll try the mindset alone, cutting out all snacking and eating at strategic times.

I wanted to respond to this last night but I was on my way to bed and too sleepy.

I think you've set up great guidelines for yourself and obviously you know what you're doing as you've been successful before.

I'm kind of doing the same thing in that I am being very careful about what I eat and practicing intermittent fasting. But I will resort to calorie counting, something I've done before, if necessary.

I've had the same experience as you in that several years ago I lost quite a bit of weight and kept it off for a few years, but now I have some (don't make me say how much, I'll never tell!) to lose again.

Actually, yesterday I tracked my calories just to get an idea and make sure I'm within the range I need. I ended up at 1535, which is about 35 cals. above where I'd like to be on a regular day.

Hey, today the scale is down 1.5lb. Woot! :)

@Medusa , best of luck to you on your fitness journey. I have been using MyFitnessPal app to help track and stay aware of my caloric intake. It's been a very useful tool.
I'm familiar with MyFitnessPal and understand it to be a very good and also popular app. When I was counting calories I used an app called, Sparkspeople, which I loved, but is now defunct. I'll probably look into MyFitnessPal or something similar if I start counting in earnest again. Thank you for the encouragement and the recommendation. ❤️ :)

You have all my sympathy since women are so at a disadvantage where calories are concerned. I'm allowed just over 1900/day to lose 2 pounds a week. The sacrifices women must make to lose the same would be soul crushing. Of course, 1 or 1.5 pounds per week will still get you were you want to go and I do believe anything more rapid than 2/week would be detrimental.

Totally agree about the too-rapid weight loss; I've done that and it wasn't a good look for me. As much as I want this weight off, like now, I'm going to have to find comfort where I am and continue this slow and steady.

Go us! (I'm really starting to love that).

I use My Fitness Pal, too, only just the free website. I don't need the App. According to it I've been at it for 105 days. I'm losing 1 to 2 pounds a week but haven't weighed since Dec. 1. I'll weigh again Jan1.

I do intermittent fasting. No eating except lunch and dinner, trying not to go over 500 calories at each meal. My total calorie count has run around 950 per day. Every night when I total, the site lights up red saying I'm probably not eating enough, but to insure a pound a week loss I have to go that low. I sometimes think I don't really need food.

That's impressive! The last time I was losing weight I was at 1100/1200 daily and I was starving most of the time. It's amazing you are okay at 950. It's interesting isn't it, how we're all ultimately the same and yet so different.

I'm down 2.4lbs so far this week, which is thrilling, but a bit too much for one week, which is good because the week isn't over and as it's Christmas Day, I'll be having cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and a rich dinner. Given I'm a bit ahead of the game this week, I might be alright by the end of it. Which is freaking awesome. Good start. Long way to go, but still, yay.
Go Us! :)

I'm up 3/10 of lb today, which I was expecting after Christmas. Not too bad and we'll see how it levels out at the end of my weighing week. Today it's back to counting cals. (didn't take long to jump back into calorie counting - I just feel safe and comfortable in the numbers), the treadmill and toning. Onward! Go us!

Okay I just did my first day of the month weigh in and I'm down six more pounds, down 30 lbs total since this date last year.

I'm pretty doggone hungry and having a little trouble sleeping because of it, but I'm going to try to stick it out one more month to reach my first goal weight.

Positive aspects to keep in mind: I can walk with so much less pain, I can get through a full shop at Kroger without having to ride the cart. I can wear clothes I hadn't had on for a few years. I can vacuum the whole house without having to take a break. I can sit here typing and fit the dog under my sweatshirt. Ain't life grand?

Best of luck to everyone with their New Year's health resolutions!
