The idea of this thread came about when someone at work, was talking about Rachael Stirling, and how attractive he found her. When I said that her attraction must be due to her mother, Diana Rigg, having passed on her physical attraction genes. He was so surprised. "Diana Rigg is her mother?" He said.

Only if your mouth is not closed, & only for a second. With your mouth open, you aren't really humming.
 
Lay your hand flat on the table with your middle finger curled under your hand.
Now lift each finger off the table. Betcha can't life your 4th (ring) finger. 😁

Would just like to point out that ‘lift’ is spelt with a T @ the end of it otherwise it’s life, like you have written and not LIFT !!! 😬

note: I can hum while holding my nose AND having my mouth closed. 😁

And you CANNOT hum whilst holding your nose, because when you hum, you are actually exhaling, so if both your mouth and your nose is closed, the air can’t escape.
So, although you can hum for a very brief few second or two, you will be forced to open your mouth and catch your breath.

Mao's reasoning - why should the lowly sparrow get to eat the people's rice and wheat?

That year and for many years after, the locust population exploded and wiped out grain and rice crops, and an estimated 20milion Chinese citizens died of starvation. Because there were no sparrows to eat the locusts.

Tried..it and you're right! I can lift my pinkie finger and my index finger, but not my ring finger
