I have discovered that I really like chicory as a hot drink coffee substitute. Chicory is a plant very similar to the dandelion, and the roots have inulin, a prebiotic fiber.
When it is roasted, it has a taste similar to coffee, but a little more mellow, and maybe sweeter. I drink mine with a little sweetener and cream/milk of some kind, and often I add a half spoon of raw cacao powder for even more of a mocha flavor.
You can get it in several different ways, some that is ground like coffee and you brew it to taste. Teeccino has different flavors and uses chicory, roasted barley, and other herbs , and comes in teabags or granules , which you brew like coffee. The picture is an example of a few of the flavors Teeccino comes in.
My favorite is an instant brand, called Chicoraya. It comes in either raspberry or dandelion , and I really can’t taste much difference between the two, so it is just a different extract added to the chicory.
I now have one cup of regular coffee in the morning, and since it is winter and I want something hot to drink, I have the chicory for the rest of the day when I want something hot.
I find it very satisfying, especially with the added cocoa powder.
