What are you doing today 2023

The series of rain storms slamming California appears to be ending today - and not a moment too soon for my personal situation. Another inch of water and our in-ground pool will overflow. Yes, there's a deck drain for that possibility, but if the rain comes hard and fast, that drain may not keep up with the rain that falls on both the pool and the deck, meaning water seepage into the house.

Hoping the string of sunny days with highs in the low 60s arrives as forecast. All of California needs a chance to dry out and I personally need Mother Nature to help a sister out by evaporating a couple of inches of water from my pool. Needless to say, it'll remain uncovered for a while.

DD's family is coming over this evening. I'll pull together a pot of vegetable soup today to go along with assemble-your-own-panini for dinner.

Starsong, sadly California is really getting slammed. A friend of mine lives there. We are getting your leftovers but luckily not all the weather gets over the mountains. Luckily ours has often been snow and we have stayed cold enough not to flood. It’s been snowing here since 1am.

This morning has been spent going through stuff in the laundry room (aka junk room) and cleaning for garage sale or tossing. One of my sons tends toward being a packrat, ahem. But I've also been going through cupboards and pulling out these (now they seem) humongous casseroles and serving dishes from when I was cooking for eight. Eye-yay-yay, how did I haul all those things around, and full of food? I am exhausted.

Corn bread also will be made, maybe the next pot of bean soup.

I feel a cuppa in the near future... strong with lots of honey and milk. The English equivalent of "fixes everything," right?

So far, it's been a long long long day. 🤣🤣🤣Feels more than 24 hours, youch!

Overall, it's been good. Last week's problems resolved, phew! One glitch, found out I may have to wait 6 months for conclusion of complaint. Not surprising but after ongoing for 3 years, getting annoyed now 😠.

Got up early as joiner was coming to fix last defective windows. It was so warm after he fixed it that I was able to reduce thermostat from 19°C to 15°C until 22:00.

Had help with daughter to empty the drawers from the Ikea pine units to make room for joiner to work on broken windows. Took us 2 hours, phew, back's painful and migraine that I had upon waking hasn't left yet, bummer!

Just had dinner, couldn't make up our minds as what to have, so bit late but I threw things in the pan, made Philly steak subs and Cheesy Nachos. Now, taking wee break and then it'll be hoovering carpets under pine units before putting back said units and putting drawers back in it.

So, had a busy painful day, but lots accomplished. Tomorrow's another day but should be quiet. Fingers and toes and arms crossed 🤣🤣🤣. Catching up on YouTube videos. Later!

I revised my Zakat( obligatory charity) calculations so I would know the correct balance due for 2022. I paid that balance dividing it between the two organizations I donate to throughout the year. I did a little bit of organizing. This evening when cleaning a can to put in the recyclable bin I cut my finger and it bled quite a bit. I bandaged it after I put on some antibiotic cream. I should have used a sponge like I started to instead of a paper towel. 😖 As has been the case lately I took a couple of naps.

The weather forecast for this area can just about get the day correct. After that anything could happen. The forecast was for snow overnight, so Mrs L suggested we should do our shopping yesterday afternoon and get home while the weather was clear. This was fine till we just finished shopping and then the heavens opened and the snow began - much earlier (and heavier) than forecast. The 14 mile drive home was in a slow convoy of cars crunching over the snow, but we made it back safely. It seems to have snowed quite a bit overnight. Today's forecast says it will be Tuesday, and the weather girl (who is much too jolly for early morning) says it will be warmer, but it won't feel like it because of the winds.

We'll see.

Step-DD just posted on FB that DH died 14 years ago today "with all of us at his bedside." What? She wasn't there.

I was there. She had gone back to MA two days earlier. Step-son who was local was there; the other step-son had gone back to the UK a week earlier.

I'm not going to say anything and just let her remember it the way she remembers it.

DSIL and DGD got back from Ohio late yesterday afternoon. Apparently DSIL's mother's vitals are enough better that they felt okay leaving. She's so sedated that she makes very little sense and is convinced that she'll be going home soon.

DSIL said at the end of last week that she was being moved to hospice, but she's actually in rehab in a nursing home. If she shows any progress by the end of a month, she'll be moved to assisted living, but going home and living alone are out of the question.

I've always said that old folks only talk about three things: what they had for their last meal, what they'll have for their next meal, and whether they've had a BM today.

That's not true. Mostly we talk about refusing to go to a nursing home when we get "old." Lucky for me, I'm already in mine. DD insists that I will never go to a nursing home. By the time I get weird and/or dangerous, I'll be too far gone to know or care where I am.

It's sunny.. and blue skies and everywhere is covered in Ice.❄️❄️

I missed a postal delivery so I'm going to go shortly and pick up the mail from there... it'll give my car a run out after a week of sitting idle...

Might as well pick up prescriptions and return an item to the store etc.. while I'm at it.. if I can, because all these things take in 3 separate towns..

I'll just stay home and catch up on some things.
I wish I had something to catch up on! It's gonna be a long day because there's really nothing that needs to be done. 🥱

Online solitaire is the only thing I can think of.

Wait! DD's car...the one that was in the shop last week to the tune of $1000? The next day she noticed a weird noise coming from the left front. That turned out to be something caught between the brake pad and the brake. Fixed. No charge.

Saturday she got home from dropping me off at work. She heard a pop and a hissing sound as she was walking from the car to the house. Hm. Since DSIL was gone to Ohio, she drove his car Sunday and yesterday but called to have hers towed. Tow truck driver was also a mechanic so started up car and had a look under the hood. He opined that it was motor mounts. We haven't heard from her mechanic yet, but that's probably it. Motor mounts have lived far beyond what's expected...but I swear that car is nickeling and diming her right into the poorhouse.

I am so glad I don't support a car any longer.

Yesterday…..went through the chest freezer, if I couldn’t remember when items were bought, they’ve been there too long.
I don’t like throwing food out….was a job that had to be done.
Another waste….when through some bottom kitchen cupboards, to find several small bags of flour and sugar that have been there too long as well.
Need to check cupboards better before shopping…..I usually do, but apparently I missed these things.
Garbage to the curb this morning with all the extra clean out.

Today……usual cleaning chores……having a coffee in a public place since before Covid, with a friend…..long over due…..I hope I remember how to behave in public.
Rest of the day…..🤔🤔🤔…..see what falls in front of me.
