Blessings to all for a Happy Thanksgiving, from our SWI Family to yours! – STICK WITH IT!

A day to celebrate with family and friends.

Our son called us last night about our daughter in law he told us that she had a sore throat and was not feeling well. Accordingly we told them we would not come over for a Thanksgiving Dinner that they had invited us for. This is the first time she has asked us over for a holiday meal and we think the pressure of it all just wore her down.

Therefore, we are set up to eat a Thanksgiving Dinner at Lidia's Restaurant. It will be good at that restaurant, but we really will miss not seeing family for this holiday. Yet, we are thankful that we still are able to go out like this for a nice dinner. But this is the first time in our 53 years that together that we have spent Thanksgiving without any of our family around. So, it might really be nice for a change...

I'm home. It's sunny with no wind, but crikey! it's cold🥶

@hawkdon A good night's sleep at last. Yay!!!! Enjoy your dinner, whatever time it gets there. Remember to NOT wipe your mouth on your sleeve. Oh, heck. Go ahead. It's not like I'll be there to see;)

There were I dunno how many people in the area who didn't get the memo about today being Thanksgiving. they were lined up at the door waiting to get in at 6 and never stopped! Hundreds. And they all brought their kids, of course. No kidding. All the checkouts and the self-checkouts were open with lines of people all the way into the grocery aisles. A couple of times during the morning, there'd be an announcement over the PA telling all available customer service employees to report to the checkouts for bagging.

Looked to me like people must have forgotten that today's Thanksgiving Day:rolleyes: I didn't work on Thanksgiving last year or the year before so it was all new to me. Sir told me that at 3pm the announcement that the store closes at 4 starts every 10 minutes over the PA and to please finish their shopping and proceed to checkout. They ignore it. At 3:30 there are still people coming in, and at 4 the doors close and are manually operated to keep people out. He said that it usually takes until 5 to get all the customers checked out and out of the store. Infreakingcredible!😲😲😲

Sure glad the store is closed Christmas Day.

TL was scheduled to work 8-4 today. She was at the door at 6 asking one of the assistant store managers if it would be okay for her to start at 6. He let her so she was underfoot until I left at 10:45. I left because my work was done and tomorrow's yeast breads/rolls already set up and in the cooler to thaw. Sir is stuck with her.

I told y'all about not wanting to cook today, thinking if I had to work, they'd figure it out. Nope. Instead of dinner at 2:30, it just got rescheduled to 5:30. LOL I bought mashed potatoes. The gravy is in jars. Cranberry sauce made weeks ago. Pumpkin pie yesterday. Dressing yesterday. All there is to do is get the turkey in the oven by 2. DD and DGD can figure out the rest themselves.

DD just came over to "borrow" the small container of cool whip that I bought yesterday. She couldn't understand why I'd keep it in the freezer. I hadn't planned on using it until tomorrow. Why wouldn't it be in the freezer?

About two hours ago she came over to borrow the flour and didn't smell turkey roasting. "Mom! Why isn't the turkey in the oven?" Um. Eight pound turkey breast. Three hours max to roast. Why? So it won't get cold and dry before 5:30. Good thing they left it to me to do. Oy.

I'm telling ya: Next year I'm not not not cooking T'Day dinner. Not, dammit. Let 'em go to a restaurant if they can't figure it out.

Went out shopping today. In place of yesterday's pouring rain, it was a glorious sunshine filled day, until the clouds rolled in lol! Thankfully, no rain. Woohoo!

Decided to split the list over two days, so will be going out again over weekend. However, got the mist amazing Chocolate ice cream from Lidl. Got the frozen veggies required for a week plus. Found two new meals in a pan deal.

One is a Seafood/Chicken Paella, the other is a Bami Goreng dish of Indonesian Chicken, vegetables and noodles. Apparently, the latter is spicy. Looking forward to that.

Got deli meats, blue cheese to make dip for the buffalo wings, plus ready to eat roasted wings, tights and drumsticks. The habitual croissants, tins of Grants Haggis for St Andrew's Day, plus the juices for soups.

Happy to have the supplies in. Last pickup before going back home, was to get new update to medal for kitty kat.

Watched few more YouTube videos about JFK. Had lunch, did dishes, had a nap. All three of us on sofa asleep 😂😂😂.

Going back to binge on Friends series, yes we miss Matthew Perry. It's 8pm. Dinner will be round 10 tonight as lunch was found 4. We went shopping later today.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all the American seniors...

That reminds me. On four recent trips to Aldi a different woman leaving the store gave me her cart and wouldn't accept the quarter. I did the same for someone else when I finished shopping. So many smiles and and good wishes over a quarter! Does that happen at your Aldi?
yes it does sometimes, but not for me because I use a trolley token instead of a coin...

It sure does. Humanity gets a bad rap, but I find one-on-one encounters are often quite pleasant and uplifting.

I went to our community Thanksgiving Dinner and had a very good time and lots of food. Then I walked awhile before coming home. Now I'm spending the afternoon goofing off on the computer and nibbling on the cranberry bread I made a couple days ago, and browsing Black Friday sales online.

Someday I'm gonna get to spend a holiday with DS and DSIL at their house instead of being the chief cook and bottle washer here.

I could Uber to their place for a mere $35 each way not including tip 😲 😲 That's on a regular day. Christmas? Upcharge. I dunno how much that would be. Yanno what? Maybe I will. Why not? So it's expensive. So?

They do help..... but also can be hard on the eyes. Just for anyone who might want to be aware of that possibility.
While at the same time, do whatever we can, to combat or minimize SAD, for sure.
my family never found them to be hard on the eyes... there are several different types, but the whole idea of them is that they give the same light as daylight...

For the second day, it's freeing and blowing a gale. Some damage to the polytunnel, but I'll have to wait until the wind dies down before repairing it. Fruit trees look OK, but some branches down from the surrounding trees. I'll saw them up and add to my log pile.

Bin day here. I didn't wheel the bin round yesterday because of the wind, so I took it to the pavement this morning where it promptly blew over.
I want to get this bin of mixed recyclables lifted today because we're switching to a new system with an extra bin. One for paper and one for plastics. Fun and games - time for the first coffee of the day.
