Looking for my "computer" glasses. I have 3 pairs of glasses - for driving (long distance), for TV (10 foot range) and for using the computer (2 foot range). They have to be in the house someplace, but I can't find them. Certainly not in their usual place. I found an old pair, but it's still blurry.

Somewhere in the past I read to rub your arm/shoulder gently and give it some light exercise the day of the injection. It seems to have helped me, so I’ll keep doing it. It didn’t really help with the first Shingles shot.
The first Shangrix shot had worse side effects than any vaccine or shot I've ever had. Even so, I prefer that to a bout of shingles. I've seen shingles hit people with far higher pain tolerance than mine, and it knocked them on their keisters.

If they're "cheaters" aka reading glasses, why not buy a few pairs. They're certainly inexpensive enough. I buy 'em 5 pairs at a time - roughly $3 per pair.

I'm back , it's starting to get dark.. and its turned cold again. It was really lovely in the sunshine at the pub today...

Where can you buy glasses that inexpensively?
Amazon and Walmart.

Deb, I hate to sound like a broken record, but it would serve you and your bank account well to push through your fears of credit cards and on-line shopping.

You're highly disciplined when it comes to money (that weird grape purchase excepted) so you won't get in over your head, and both CCs and online shopping are extremely safe - safer by far than using checks.

those type of reading glasses are no use for me. The highest strength you can buy are around 4.0.... . I have stronger prescription than that..so I have to get mine from the Opticians... and like you I have 3 pairs.. one for reading, one for computer use.. one for distance ( well 2 for distance if you count my prescription sunglasses as well )

I'd still have to know my prescription strength. And I have an astigmatism which OTC glasses probably wouldn't help.
By federal law, your optometrist has to provide you the Rx information on your glasses. Just call and ask.

Apparently over the counter reading glasses work fine if astigmatisms aren't too severe. Next time you go to a dollar store, Target, or similar, poke around in their reading glass section.

What is your prescription. I wear progressives. When I went without the written script, a fancy eyeglasses place owner just took my word when I said the strength was 2.75 for reading. Instead I should have had a 1.5. The lower number is achieved by subtracting it from the upper number. I never knew why they only helped me for the computer.

Today I caught two trains to get to Preston to see and photograph a big old Class 37 Diesel that was leading a posh railtour to the Blackpool Illuminations. While I was there I had an overdue Pow (That's a haircut to you) and did some "Autumn in Preston" photos in the city centre and also a local park that has a small but beautiful Japanese garden. This eveinging I'll visit my poorly old Mum in hospital again. She's not very well.

Oh I'm sorry to hear your mum isn't recovering as you as a family hoped..bless her heart... tell her ( if she's able to hear)...that you have half the world wishing her well...

In a half hour will start driving the 55 miles north to downtown San Francisco where the international APEC conference with a huge police security presence is starting. Also nearby a street art fair and some Hip-Hop dance contests. Supposed to be several loud protest groups about but expect to stay away.

Yesterday also began computer personal file back-ups slowly onto USB-C flash memory that will take a few days. This morning finished filling the first stick with 250 gigabytes from archived work over the last 3 years. Second 250gb just starting that will resume later today. Last minor partial back-ups have been to USB-sticks. Last major backup pre-pandemic was onto HDD hard drives for which I made a couple copies of then secretly buried them up in the local hills. So theft or fire won't get my work that is mainly image files.

But now given the cost of 250gb USB sticks around just $20 each, plus their higher long term lifetime of over 10 years, will just be using those tiny devices. From a couple decades ago still have bulky containers full of longer lifetime high quality CD's and magnetic tape.

Times sure have changed. I remember being so thrilled with 5.25 floppies.
