Dire Straits reminds you of Bob Dylan ?......I can see that now you say....
I prefer Mark Knopfler as a Solo artist ( also writer of film scores) .... and this my very favourite thing he did with the fabulous Everly brothers, and the superb Chet Atkins
While I am an unabashed, unashamed low brass player, I always appreciate great music in the Duke Ellington tradition (two kinds of music -- one is good, and the other kind). One of my first forays into jazz was via this man, Hubert Laws -- a flute player.
He takes this simple song -- Amazing Grace -- and acknowledges it as one of the great songs of our age. He starts out on either bass flute or alto flute (I can't tell the difference), and finishes on C flute, accompanied by his associates. It's a wonderful presentation and if you can hear the difference between him and other flute players, you can appreciate his artistry.
