My husband, surprisingly being Chicago born and raised, knows anything and all about them and this is his favorite album.
It is a gem. I first bought Pet Sounds back in my early 20s after hearing Paul McCartney rave about it. I was so unimpressed at the time, thinking "I don't get it. I don't like this very much." (I've talked to other Beatles fans who had the same reactions to this album—at first.)
Today, I wonder how I could have possibly overlooked the brilliance. I seriously wonder why I didn't love this album immediately—I'm not sure what I was thinking! I chalk it up to youthful ignorance.
This album is almost all I've been listening to lately.
Oh, so
@IrishEyes, your husband must appreciate, and already know about, Phil Spector's influence on Brian Wilson. I actually don't know much about the Beach Boys, but a couple of weeks ago I was listening to "Here Today" and sent the link to my friend group, asking "Doesn't this sound very Phil Spector-ish? It sounds a lot like his Wall of Sound approach!" I was met with radio silence. They're not really music fans and were probably thinking "Who is Phil Spector? And what the heck is the Wall of Sound?"

(I don't mean that in an unkind way. They're just not really music fans.)
Then I read that Brian did indeed try to crack the Wall of Sound technique, and IMO did so brilliantly.
