Well,Junior year it was an engagement ring,Senior year it was a wedding ring.

Crazy,huh?

I still have the ring that I wore before that, but no way does it fit me now. Size 3 1/2,lol. Can`t even get it on my pinky....

I remember in junior high school we would wear our boyfriend`s "knucklebusters"-which were always way too big. We would wrap yards and yards of dental floss on the inside, then paint on many, many coats of pink nail polish. When you turned your hand palm up,it looked like you had a big wad of bubblegum on the underside of your finger.

Nothing. That wasn't a big deal on Chicago's South Side. Also, any jewelry would have drawn the attention of the gang bangers. I was a known guy. Nobody messed with my women, although one SOB used to delight in cozying up to my Sophomore year gal, she was a Senior, when she stood in front of the bandstand, as I performed. I always wanted to kick his ass, but he was physically challenged, so I laid off. (You're lucky, Scott!)

First I wanted to say thank you for sharing all your sweet stories, they sure bring me back in time! I do remember receiving a friendship ring in junior high, and for Christmas I gave this young man an engraved ID bracelet, it definitely was puppy love!
When we moved to Florida I attended high school and dated a young man and was given a promise ring. At the time I accepted the ring I thought it was going to be a lasting relationship but that was not the case. Dating when you are young can tear up your heart and I myself was hurt when dating and unfortunately I think I unintentionally hurt this young man when we broke up. He did go on to marry a nice woman and they have a son.
I was married at the age of 21 and we exchanged wedding bands. I received my engagement ring 20 years later when we could afford it.

Having also grown up on the southside I am curious what is the definition of a "known guy"?

Lol! If I remember correctly, you're the guy who incorrectly named a major landmark in my present town, and confused a Nashville attraction, to boot, as you claimed to have hung there, too. Where, exactly, did you grow up, on the "South Side?"

Hours, and hours, later........(crickets chirping)

I only saw one couple wearing one of these, but back in the 60's there were "tweaters"...…...huge turtleneck sweaters with two neck holes and two sleeves. It looked like a rather large size of Siamese twins in a gaudy sweater. I can't find a picture of one but you get the drift.

It's a good thing I never had a desire for a "tweater" (it was hard enough keeping my boyfriend's hands where they belonged when they were out in the open, nevertheless under a tent-sized sweater) because my mother would have taken her scissors out and turned the "tweater" back into two one-sleeved sweaters.
