It's not only cable TV that is saturated with commercials....network TV is just as bad. My pet peeve is the ABC/NBC/CBS Evening News. I like to watch these channels at Suppertime, to get an idea of the days events, but all three of these major networks follow the same pattern anymore. They rush through a quick overview of the days events during the first 15 minutes, then the last 15 minutes is almost solid commercials, interspersed with quick 30 second highlights of some news event. Most of their commercials are stupid "Ask Your Doctor" ads....and its not unusual to flip channels and see the same ads being run, at the same time, on multiple channels...so much for "independent" news reporting. Anymore, TV news is just about worthless, and only suffices to offer a clue about what is happening...and then I go to the Internet to get the details.
