What do you do during commercials?

If you watch cable TV, you are familiar with that 6 minute block of commercials. What do you do during that block? Besides a bathroom break , I do the puzzles in the newspaper. I've also got a book of crossword puzzles. And if you find a channel that has a different ad schedule, you can watch two shows at the same time.

.I have been spoiled by HULU, I watch all my "regular" network shows there, the next day. Especially helpful for shows my husband does not like. And vise versa,

I watch commercials more than I use to. I am trying to lighten up on my compulsive bigoted ways. :). Still have a long ways to go. Come March, I'll be listening to baseball on the XM, where they don't bother me near as much. I figure they are paying for my ticket.

It's not only cable TV that is saturated with commercials....network TV is just as bad. My pet peeve is the ABC/NBC/CBS Evening News. I like to watch these channels at Suppertime, to get an idea of the days events, but all three of these major networks follow the same pattern anymore. They rush through a quick overview of the days events during the first 15 minutes, then the last 15 minutes is almost solid commercials, interspersed with quick 30 second highlights of some news event. Most of their commercials are stupid "Ask Your Doctor" ads....and its not unusual to flip channels and see the same ads being run, at the same time, on multiple channels...so much for "independent" news reporting. Anymore, TV news is just about worthless, and only suffices to offer a clue about what is happening...and then I go to the Internet to get the details.

Those long commercial breaks are when I do my housework, dishes, etc...

The number of commercial breaks on 'Today' are perfect when using cleaning products that you need to spray and let sit for a few minutes, squirt during the first commercial and wipe during the next commercial.

It's amazing what you can accomplish during those little pockets of time.

I have gotten to where I am on my tablet while watching TV more and more. Sometimes on this forum or playing solitaire, etc. If the show is interesting I pay attention to it, if not or it is in commercial I am mess with the tablet. If not the tablet then I might change channels a lot during commercials.

I'm similar to Don. The evening news is mostly the first 10 minutes. Sometimes I can time it so that when one channel is showing ads, the other isn't. ABC tends to go longer before the ads come, so I go back to CBS and they have just finished their first ad. So its like a game with me, to see if I can watch straight news without interruption. If I can't do that, I go to public tv news, they do not have many ads during news.

I'll try anything to escape the ads. The remote is a great invention. I couldn't watch tv without it. If all else fails, I go into the back yard with my dog, and we have a good time playing "fetch" and getting exercise.

Set up with Amazon Fire, Nvidia Shield, KODI & stream Netflix so if watching TV is something to kill time with the choices of what to watch are almost unlimited with no commercial breaks. News if I remember to watch it is mostly for local happenings, that is on indoor antenna with 50 mile radius HD reception.

TV is for entertainment not frustration.

I might get a snack or drink, brush the dog or cat, or like Bea just do a minute or two of dishes or wiping something down with Windex...or just sit through the commercials, the ones with pets I can tolerate. :D

We record everything. Not just because of the commercials but we like to watch a few episodes all at once. If you get rid of the commercials and the recap of last weeks show, there isn't much left, so two episodes can almost fit in a one hour time slot.

I sometimes flip back and forth between two or more shows. Sometimes they all have commercials on at the same time, but not always.

I hate commecials, and mostly watch the streaming channels, HBO, etc. for that reason.

My daughter and Son-in-law gave me a fit bit for Christmas. I get up and walk around the house till the show comes back on. Surprising how many steps you can get in. I also walk 45-60 minutes in the morning and usually get my 10 thousand steps a day.

I hate commercicials, too. I dumped cable and network a long time ago and am happy streaming what I want to watch.

Actual news takes about 10 to 15 minutes at best to report. The rest is commentary, opinion, arguing and commercials.

But after thinking about it... if no one watched commercials and therefore didn't buy products due to having seen the commercials, who would pay for the programs we watch?

If it is recorded, then fast forward, if it is live then the mute button.

I installed a mute button on our TV back in 1960, long before we had remotes. I just wired in a switch into the speaker circuit with wires to reach to my chair.
