What do you enjoy about being a Forum member?

I don't enjoy the thread jacking and thread drift.
As if literacy and comprehension don't exist.
Sometimes it should be called Senile Forums.

There also is a clique here,
Big time.

if you're not "in", forget it.
Well, I respect your right to feel as you will. Nothing is perfect, I have sure learned that. I have hit a few bumps here myself and prayed someone would highjack my thread and let it die. I realize not all will agree the same as all will not disagree. It helps me to learn the personalities behind the names.

That hasn't been my experience. Being new to forums, never did MySpace or Facebook and that general sort of forum, Senior Forums is like getting to know strangers as you would in life. Engaging with just the written word and without facial expression or body language, has made me concentrate on my grammar, eloquence and keeping it concise, it's so easy to go rambling off on a tangent.

Clique is certainly not a word that I would have used. When I posted about my wife's heart surgery the goodwill messages were overwhelming. More than that, those messages were of a kindly nature and genuine.

different forums seem to have different rules on how much thread drift is allowed - some are very tight on it - the slightest tangent is quashed immediately - others not so much.
It isnt to do with the age group of the forum though - just a variation thing between them.
I'm not sure where the happy medium lies.

I like this forum, Matrix mods well and the vibe is courteous and friendly and a big variety of topics.

some of them too 'american centric' for those of us from other countries - but that is something unavoidable on an american based forum.

I have been made so welcome from the very first time I joined. Many people said "Welcome" and I wasn't sure how to respond.
Please forgive me if I didn't. I am so happy I joined Senior Forums because another forum I did belong to had nothing but negative remarks and nastiness. Love the humour and discussions on many subjects.

So sorry you feel that way. I am fairly new to this forum, but I have belonged to an international Horse Forum since 2008 and we are masters at hijacking threads. We are so good at it that we often apologize for hijacking a thread, when it starts becoming unrecognizable from the original title. It’s common place no matter where you choose to hang out.

I don’t fit the general mold here because I am a diehard horse person and my lifestyle is hanging on to this small farm, but people accept me here. I do feel I have something positive to contribute once in a while. I learn a lot from others perspectives.

How boring life would be if we all followed the straight and narrow, stuck to what was black and white, and didn’t occasionally dip our toes into the gray areas🤸🏾‍♀️🤸🏾‍♀️

I love this forum.

Even though some of our topics may be "light", which I'm very happy with, I've learned lots of information in this forum. I've even ordered things to enhance my life, from correcting bruising to circulation, as a result of recommendations from other members. Members have posted songs that I haven't heard in years and I've downloaded them. One member even recommended another forum that I've been a member of since 2023. I hope I've been able to provide constructive recommendations in return.

I've also enjoyed learning about various personalities. I've always been interested in what makes people tick, and personalities come out over time. There are members here who have been through so much in their lives and I admire them for learning and coming out the better for it. They should be an inspiration to all of us.

More than anything, I enjoy the camaraderie here and the support we provide to one another. I see no "cliques" here. I simply see a group of people that have discovered they have more in common than not. Especially now when things are so divided, it is important to find commonalities with others. There are posters I may not agree with in some threads and agree with in others.
I've made lots of friends here and I value them tremendously.

I'm quite new but i love that there's always someone here. I like that the topics are so interesting and cover things that i can relate to. I learn something each time I check in even if I don't post, i enjoy reading all the responses and who is responding.

Everyone gets along and everyone's opinion is accepted and respected. I do like a snarky post now and then, makes life interesting but most of them are done in fun and good humor.

I just come to chat. Its just me and sometimes I feel chatty.
Its nice cause theres always someone available even at 3am.

And us introverts can take our time without being interrupted like IRL. :D

Also I am kinda senior and I do live alone so I thought I might hook up with some of my tribe in that forum. :D

Here's a thought. Try not being so negative, accusing other members of being "illiterate" and having a lack of comprehension. You may find that you are more accepted here.

If I hijack a thread it may stimulate another conversation of interest. Or it may start another OP. Sorry if it's not following your narrative of what a forum should be.

There is no "clique", but there are members who are respectful of one another. If you choose not to be respectful, you get what you give.
