What Dollar General Doesn’t Want You To Know

If it's anything like some of the Dollar General stores in my area, they'd prefer that you not know:

That there is only one employee in the store sometimes......

And that he/she is out back, checking a delivery......

And that you're going to have to go find him/her when you're ready to check out......

And that it's real easy, if you're of the sort to do it, to walk out without paying.

Misa worked up the road at a Dollar General. She had to laugh , or she would have killed someone at how criminal the store is. It is a wreck! But, it keeps going, flooding their stores with cheap, unhealthy, crap. But, what is a person to do. There are 4 of them before you can get to a super market. Convenient, quick, and you get what you get. Might not be what you need, but you got something. That's the pay off. You bought something. It works. Now your satisfied, but with a product that is basically a worthless or inferior product. No matter, it was cheap, I can afford 2 this way. Buy more. Got ya again. Dollar General, yea, like Custards last stand.

In Canada, we have Dollarama. I haven’t noticed any rip offs. Most things are a good deal. Some things aren’t. Dollar stores actually ask places to create specific items to sell for less and usually get what they ask for.
In other words, you get a similar product that you’d get elsewhere only slightly different but for much less $

A lot stores are poor on pricing period. Not only for pricing accuracy I frequently see unpriced stuff on the shelf or head of the aisle. Also a lot of supermarkets have vendors stock shelves and determine pricing. One supermarket their soda prices shakey and another their snacks like pretzels, chips are frequently off.

Some states mandate the customer must get the marked price, they'll try to make excuse and whine they'll be blamed for a loss but their registers have the capabilities to reduce the price

Seriously, it's 2024 with all the tech we have, and supermarkets say they can't get the price right on the shelf? Good grief.

We live in a rural area with limited stores nearby, We have a DG in our nearby town, and we often buy a few items there. I have never noticed any problems with the pricing. Some items are cheaper at our Walmart....15 miles away....but the time and gas involved in driving over there hardly offsets spending a few cents more at DG.

I buy few things at the dollar type stores, including 99 cent stores. I have drinking glasses made in USA that were probably seconds but they are heavy and I really like them. Cheap scissors so I don't use my good fabric scissors on paper and to open packages. Tape, things like that but it's not my go to for sure. I do a look around if I'm in there.

I hear Joann's crafts is going out of business? There staffing is terrible and they are really bad with their fabric cuts. The store sucks.

I wonder how often this happens in other stores, also. I do most of my grocery shopping at Giant Foods, a big MD chain. I usually get a fairly long list of items. I have always trusted them to charge me the same price that's in their ads and on the shelf. So far, I have been given no reason to doubt them. But it sounds like it might be very easy for any of these stores to do what Dollar General has been doing. Who has the time to check each and every item after they have paid. and go back to look at the shelf and compare prices, etc? Mistakes do happen, but this sounds like out and out fraud.
Dollar General deserves to go out of business.

I don't shop at the dollar stores, the merchandise appears to be of a lower quality. That plus the clientele tends to be sketchy.
Hmmm, I don't think I look sketchy😕...................but I do buy stuff like paint brushes or packages of envelopes or odds'n ends of kitchen tools.... Having said that, we have two dollar stores in our town but I don't shop at one near my usual grocery store, because they have no prices on anything in the store. Lots of stuff, well organized and clean, but no prices visible! I refuse to shop there. I want to know what I'm going to pay.

Seriously? I love Joann's. There's one nearby. I sometimes get jewelry making supplies there and wreaths for the cemetery at Christmas. I'll be sorry to see them go.

We need to check out receipts any time, anywhere we buy. The biggest offender of pricing errors I have are at my Kroger. When I go to customer service, act like they are surprised but I know that is not the case. It happens too many times. I like to shop there for loss leaders there and expect to pay what has been advertised.

I bought some take-away from the Lebanese shop around the corner from me. I ordered 3 chicken skewers, small tabouleh, small garlic and small chips and it came to $40.00. I queried the price and she said that it was correct. If I had only checked the order list on the wall I would have seen
1 whole barbecue chicken was $18.90. What I got was 3 skewers for $8.50 each? $25.50 for the 3.??? What a rip-off. My son wanted to go back and complain but I said to let it rest and we won't buy off them again.
