What food price increase caused you to stop buying

Like some others have said, I haven't stopped buying anything but I am watching the sales flyers and will get groceries from the store with the best prices or sometimes from more than one store in a week. I will still get a big order by ordering online and picking up at the store but now I make more in person trips to get some sale items at other stores. I really watch closely for sales and digital coupons on paper items and laundry items. They are so expensive now. I watch the drugstore ads for sales on items I can get there.

During Covid and then after my hip surgery I was having some restaurant meals delivered but no more. The delivery services thought it was such a good thing that they started tacking on extra fees and some restaurants started charging more if a delivery service was involved, so I stopped that altogether. I don't like being taken advantage of. It's a good thing because it's healthier to eat home meals anyway.

Occasionally I still pick up take-out or eat out in a restaurant but much less often than before.

Today I had Sunday lunch at the pub... roast beef, 4 veggies including roast postatoes... and it cost me less than a 7'' pizza would from a Pizza shop...

I got some bulk organic flour at the health food store this morning. It was $2.79 a pound. I think it used to be about a dollar less. That's how I usually buy it because I don't use it much, so I get a smaller amount.

Michelle shot down my idea of making our own washable, reusable bum-wipes. I still don't see why. 😕
For us with multiple Latin, Oriental, American food chains competing, along with Cosco, & Sam's club wholesale stores, pricing hasn't made any difference for us.

As for washable bum wipes, a add on bidet can reduce the use of toilet paper.

I can’t believe how expensive pizza has gotten. We used to grab a pizza at our local pizza restaurant but can’t afford that now. We considered it a quick cheap meal.
I just keep an eye out for frozen pizza on sale at the grocery store for an occasional option at home when I don’t want to cook. Frozen is definitely not as good as getting it at a restaurant but big difference in price.

if I keep a watch on Dollar General sales and use their digital coupon I can get Honey Nut Cherrios for around $2 a box. Thank God for that as Cheerios are all my 89 year old mom will eat for breakfast. Every single day!

I agree.. I've never been a great lover of Pizza, but occasionally it was nice enough... but I would never , buy a Pizza from a Pizza restaurant now .. always if I fancy one I buy ready made from the supermarket...I can get a 12 inch pizza for £5 there..compared to £12 for a 7 inch from the Pizaa place . Its not that I can't afford it.. I just don't want to afford it..it's ridiculous...

We haven't stopped buying any things, but we have changed some brands (such as cereals). Fish has become noticeably dearer with fresh haddock & cod fillets costing about £15 /kilo. Farmed salmon and trout are much cheaper.
Salmon here is much more expensive now.

Also, my favorite Dove dark chocolate has almost doubled in price. I don't get it any more.

Have you stopped buying certain foods because the price has risen to where you feel it's unaffordable to you..or just not worthy of the increase.?

There's quite a few rises in foods here which frankly are not worth it.. and one of those is the once Humble British Fish and Chips,... take -away...

Our nearest Take-away ( it's not a restaurant, there's no eating in)... is now charging £12..00 for a small piece of cod, and chip..(fries)... unbelievable price...
I buy a lot of store brands. I think my portions on meat have become smaller. A larger veg to meat ratio suits me better. Have also discovered Aldi and Lydl and Walmart frozen vegetables.

I will not eat at my localfast food joint anymore. $12.00+ for a whopper, large fries, large diet Coke. My Burgerking has the most expensive menu around.
I'm so surprised to read this!
Because about once a month I get coupons in the mail for BK advertising their whoppers w/fries and coke for like $5. Or double BK burgers w/the extras for $8.99.

Wish you were closer, I'd send them your way.. Nobody wants them around here.

I'm not keen on Store Brands tbh... I buy occasionally from Lidl..and Aldi.. ( I used to do more shopping in Aldi, but their prices have risen steeply in recent months)... so if I'm going to pay prices in the budget stores that are almost matching the Major supermarkets..then the latter wins and I shop there.. plus the bigger supermarkets have much more variety ergo choice...

I have always bought frozen veg... it's been proven that it maintains the vitamins for very much longer than fresh.. and amazingly pound for pound it's cheaper..

We don't have a takeaway fish and chips now because the price is about £25.00 which is ludicrous.

for 2 people you mean ?... I know it's just beyond belief. I can see Chip shops being the next to fold...

At one time there used to be a Queue out the door at our neearest chip hop on a Friday night... always a big queue... you knew that if you wanted cod & chips on a friday night you'd have to Queue... this year.. Nada... never any queue..

We are lucky we get a side of beef & whole hog from friends. It's seem a lot of money at one time, but when you break it down, it's way cheaper than the stores. The local bulk food store is my go-to for flour, sugar, spices, baking items & other from scratch needs. We still put up some veggies/fruit from the garden, but sometimes we will buy at local stands what we don't grow. We still buy canned goods which come from Aldi's or Walmart, who has the best prices for us. I watch for sales to see what's available & stock up.

If anything, the high prices has made us stop buying the things that we really didn't need to have in the first place.

We don't eat out as much now, so when we do, it's at the places we really like. Neither of us like or care for fast food unless we don't have a choice. Even on trips, I'll make lunches for us depending on where we are going. There are some places we go to that we know exactly where & what we are going to get.

McDonalds. But that really isn’t food. If I am going to pay over $25 for two of us, it is going to be for real food served to us and not slid over a counter to me. And the McDonalds by me even has a sign warning of a 30 minute limit to eat and after that you will be escorted out - how is that for atmosphere!

The other day I didn’t buy cream cheese because the store brand sale price was $4.49 for 8 oz. Now I’m really craving it for making stuffed celery sticks. I’ll have to check out another store or get over my craving. I’ve lived without making these for years.

Twelve pounds for a little piece of cod and a few chips. My GOD! Thank goodness I live in Canada where food is still very plentiful and very cheap regardless of the lies the media is telling you. I know because I live here and shop every week. eg: 3 nice big bananas for 0.89 cents Canadian.

Last week I bought 2 pounds of Canadian blueberries for $3.88 or $1.94/pound. I love blueberries, they are very healthy for you and I am living high of that "proverbial hog."

I check out the 99 cent store and Grocery Outlet. It's hit and miss for me, but when a deal is found, it can be a good one. They are right across the street from each other so stopping in every week or two is worth it.

If we ever run out of toilet paper (I never did during
For my dinners I usually buy Stoffers or Lean Cuisine but the prices lately are almost $5,I've stopped buying unless they are on sale Instead I usually go to Panera's buy their salads or make my own for my dinner
Amy's brand has really gone up in price. Especially when I worked full time, I'd keep some in the freezer. Get them at Target or on sale. But Safeway stores has them for about 8 dollars. I did get 2 at Grocery Outlet for $1.99. But working part time, I'm not buying them unless they are at that price.

We haven't stopped buying any foods we like because of increased prices. Prices of everything have gone up and if you want it you pay the price. We don't throw away money on petty things, live a simple lifestyle by choice, and don't want to deny ourselves of life's little pleasures in our old age. As long as we can afford it, we will buy it, so far so good.
So with you on this!

The price of McCormick Curry nearly doubled within a year on Amazon. This is GreedFlation! We get 8% inflation for a short time and prices go up 50 to 100%!

So I found another option at a reasonable price. This what we all need to do!
