While I can certainly understand how being shipped to Viet Nam as a young man affected your world outlook I don't see how that can blind one of the clear definition of right and wrong.

The media did not make up the invasion of a sovereign Ukraine by the RU terrorists. And the war stops as soon as RU leaves the ground they occupy in Ukr.

This is why I seldom post opposition to the more popular opinions. I don’t care to get in debates. I enjoy reading poster’s thoughts on the issues, but leave me out of the back and forth debates. They mean absolutely nothing. Everyone here is deserving of an opinion. If I don’t like it, I ignore it and move on.

There is so much wrong here in our country that we should be spending our money here at home. We have miles of homeless camps and seniors that can’t afford to eat properly. I still have people calling me wanting me to arrest their husband or boyfriend for physical abuse. I tell them I am no longer on the force. Please call 911. They call me because they kept my business card with my cellphone number on it, which I am going to change over Christmas. We have hundreds, if not thousands if children with cancers.

The U.S. has no interests of any type in Ukraine that I am aware of. Everyone wants to see Russia fall, but at what cost? What will we do if Ukraine does surrender or Zelensky runs off with the money like the president did in Afghanistan? We will have spent hundreds of billions of dollars, plus military weapons and planes. Why aren’t other nations putting up more cash? It’s always the Chu.S. We are like a giant ATM machine.

This war should have ended months ago and if we had some great foreign diplomacy, maybe it would have been. However, as long as there is money to be made, it will not end. This is the last post I will have to say about this issue. Yeah, I know——Hurray!.

The problem with the above is that as a percent of the Federal budget, spending on social services is far far higher than spending on defense or anything else. Yet depsite the huge increases in spending, homelessness is still growing.

I suggest considering how the money is being spent. In my county, yearly spending on homelessness is estimated at 40,000 to 80,000 dollars for each homeless person. You can rent a very nice apartment for far less than that.

Recently my state removed 150 homeless people who were camping out in highway rest areas. They were moved to shelters. The cost was 150 million dollars. Yes, you read the right. The state spent One Million Dollars to move each homeless person to a better place. My guess is that these homeless people did see anywhere near 1,000,000 dollars added to their net worth. Just as the homeless in my county do not see much of the 40 to 80 thousand dollars spent to help help each one of them.

I think the problem is not money spent on defense, farm subsidies, repairing old bridge, etc. It’s how our political leaders spend the money to help people like the homeless. Remember, we elect these people.

Gotta say, I agree with @911 completely. It may sound selfish but I'm at the point to where I say bring all of our troups home, protect the borders [including] the southern border , and take care of our own. We need very little from other nations , for the most part we can fill our needs on our own ....... Let's do that ......

He @911 mentioned most of our problems, so I won't repeat but ..... just think about the amount of good/help we could do for our own ..... with the outragous amounts of money we have sent to those who do not {IMO} even appreciate it.

When was the last time another country sent relief/help over here when we had some sort of disaster ? Correct me if I am wrong but I don't remember any help from anywhere.

For years I've I've been posting what most media won't that is finally seeing more traction. The primary drivers of homelessness are Wall Street corporation real estate investors buying up properties that advertise worldwide to wealthy both US and foreigners, raising rents and open borders flooding our nation with more poor people that compete with our own native born poor for available rentals.

Many immigrants succeed at finding rentals by living in larger groups much beyond home capacities while our own poor do not resulting in their homelessness. This all drives many lower income poor into working class blue collar homes making their housing also scarce. And that in turn pushes blue collar folks into more expensive middle class housing. Middle class folks then only have the upper class homes and rental available that is the true game plan of corps and their home building construction corps that only build high end housing where profits are highest. They in turn have their politicians via their news media complain that "we need more housing". What one will never read is "We need more affordable housing."

As long as endless poor keep streaming in our open borders, it will never end. Another manipulative strategy of corps is to sell low end homes at high prices to small investors who instead raise rents effectively disconnecting them from statistics, hiding their blame. Worst abuse are those corps buying up mobile home park lands where poor residents are defenseless sitting ducks. Much more but ought not be in this thread.

When and where did a vote freeze happen? Are you talking about when Putin annexed eastern Ukraine and held a fake election?

Zelensky was elected after the Revolution of Dignity in early 2014, a revolution by over 100-thousand Ukrainian citizens to end decades of Putin successfully manipulating local and national elections in Ukraine.

One of Zelensky's first presidential actions was to rid Ukraine of Russian political over-reach wherever he could legally. That included the temporary closure of churches whose clerical leaders were Putin sympathizers. These clerics were accused by citizens of spreading propaganda and inciting treason, which the citizens proved.

These clerics were found to be a risk to Ukraine's national security, however, Zelensky agreed they had the right to Freedom of Speech within limits, and 1 or 2 of them were allowed to continue their work and their churches reopened. They had to promise to observe the limits of law and allow government officials to monitor them.

Zelensky won the presidential election by popular vote. Ukraine's presidential term is 5 years, renewable once. Zelensky won't serve more than a max of 10 years.

Out of date building codes are one reason we do not have enough new housing. However there are other reasons also such as:

1.) Drug usage. In many cases homelessness is just the outward sign of a major drug usage problem.
2.) Refusal to move. In the past people were willing to move to where the jobs are. Today, they think they have the right to be paid whatever it takes to live where they want to live. Right. Sure! You betcha!! I will pay $6 for a cup of coffee so the guy at the coffee stand can have a nice big house on the shores of Lake Inyourdreams. Ain’t gonna happen. I’ll make coffee at home.

Here’s the story of the 1994 nuclear agreement between Russian and Ukraine. That was the agreement where Russia agreed to honor the then existing borders of Ukraine.

Don't forget that the US congress can and has created new laws and amended old ones so that real estate moguls and huge construction companies can legally get away with this. IMO, greed in congress is the main culprit. In fact, I'm gonna say congress is the main cause of homelessness; both their actions and in-actions.

We have to end all opportunities and avenues for members of the legislative branches of our gov't to cash in on their positions as law-makers. It's the most significant, egregious, and nationally embarrassing conflict of interest in US politics.

He was elected in 2019. His direct opponent then found himself under a deluge of lawsuits. Finally - who has an election in the middle of a war? They're fighting for their very lives. The churches closed had direct links to Moscow. Hey, we have a candidate for Presidency in the US who is looking to disallow a certain religion from entering the country..... strange times.

The article you linked in post #79 says "Ukrainian legislation bans elections during martial law that has been in place since Russia launched its invasion in February 2022. The country would need to amend the law if it decided to hold the vote."

If I understand that correctly, by law, Ukraine prohibits elections during times of war. So it appears the issue is whether or not to change or amend that law.
 
As you read the various comments about the war in Ukraine, I strongly suggest you read the Mueller report. Skip the parts about the former President and read the parts about Russian intervention in the 2016 election. It’s naive to think the Russians are running a similar con job on the USA and West today.

Thank you. I left out the NOT. Yes, I do think it’s naive to think the Russians are NOT running a similar con job in the USA and the West in general. Also, it seems that the Chinese were running similar cons in 2022.
 
We get to test our weapons in Ukraine, Some of our troops are there now learning, we do get some benfits from them
 
Saddly if we wait for the Russians to invade Estonia or Poland, It will be a lot worse than simply testing weapons. It will take a lot of American blood to stop them, not just weapons.
