What have you bought recently?

Speaking of Costco, I was there Tues - I didn't actually need anything but had toddler grandson and he is rather insistent on a bye-bye in the car, so off we went. Got to the checkout stand and $257.00? Wait, what??? Oh yeah, they had chlorine tablets for the pool. 40 lbs was $180.00 plus tax = $197.10. No wonder the bill was so high.

Still a better price than elsewhere and it should get us through fairly deep in the summer, but yowza!

In southern California where I live wages for fast food workers goes up to $20.00 per hour on April 1, 2024. A Big Mac is projected to cost $11.00. Much local discussion about how this promotes economic inequality. A consequence of trying to give workers a living wage. Strange consequence.
Right now, a Big Mac costs $5.58 (average) in CA. The $11-$45 Big Mac price projection comes from the echo chamber of social media yammering, not McDonald's. And yes, you read that correctly, some are saying McD's will charge $45 for a Big Mac because of a 20% bump in that minimum wage.

The rise in CA's minimum wage to $20/hour only affects chains with 60 or more locations across the US. (It also raises the minimum for healthcare workers.) Context, while CA's minimum wage is $16, many counties already require higher minimum wages across the board, ranging all the way up to $19.08/hr.

Would it really be such a bad thing if local, privately owned restaurants were better able to compete with behemoth franchised chains? Or if (gasp) people ate less high fat, high sodium junk food? Or if some who are living on the financial edge had a bit more breathing room?

My prediction is that Big Macs will go up roughly 20%, to $6.69-ish. Time will tell.

Does the Filet-o-Fish sell well in the UK. The English seem to love their fish. How does it stack up to Fish n Chips, there?
I wouldn't have a clue tbh..I rarely ever buy Mcdonalds food..but Ironically I do buy the fillet-o-fish more often than burgers when i do buy anything.. so I presume it's popular, and comparing that with Fish and chips is like comparing apples an oranges ...

One, because fresh fish and chips is 10 times the price.. and 2 because the filet-o-fish just tastes like a little block of bland fish... unlike the chip shop fish.....and further, the people who buy from the chippy are most unlikely to be buying fish from MaccyDees...

Not bought yet, but added to my Wish List on Amazon. After using Noxzema cream until my late 30s, my skin was amazing. However, couldn't find a replacement product with the same results.

So, I'll be getting two jars. One for myself and one for daughter. Both of us suffering from psoriasis and eczema, we need relief. Goddess me, we've tried every cream available here from the cheapest to near outrageous 😂.

thank you.

Incidentally, still on the subject of MacDonalds.. I understand that over in the USA they sell Mashed potato in MacDonalds.. they don't here//never have , probably never will..

Given that they're a 'burger joint' I'm not sure I understand the reasons for the mashed potato...

I've never heard of mashed potatoes at a McDs. They have a shredded hash brown patty that people sometimes order with breakfast, but no mashed potatoes.

Can't you just pick up one of those tubs of Bob Evans' mashed taters and microwave that? Probably 1/4 the price and twice the quality and flavor. Or just make your own out of fresh spuds.

I swear, some people would buy bottled water!

I didn't spend any money but should have because I just realized that I'm almost out of...chocolate! OMG! Must. Have. Chocolate!

Chocolate is now on the list to buy before I leave the store tomorrow.
